  • When I was 11, my father let me

    drive his car on the flat plains near the local river. It was my birthday wish and I was tall enough to reach the pedals without a cushion.. No way to get the front up on that squareback veedub, though.
    40 years later, I let my kids drive the family car as well, on safe ground away from traffic. What's all that fuss from these self-righteous commenters... Try something, get a life.

      I was driving Landrovers and speedboats at 13 yrs old, had the time of my life. The Nanny state do-gooders cause half of the problems these days by not allowing kids to do anything. This man is a better father than their fathers ever will be (if they know who he is...!!)

      out for motocross. Did not take long for the son to show his father who was faster, despite the much smaller bike. Little guy is now 14 and did not break a bone, although the risk is real. But he knows that before...
