Plane Flying Sideways Near High Above Ground

  • It is an extremely difficult maneuver

The Sukoi is one of the few airplanes ideally suited for this kind of flying.

What the pilot has to do is give it full rudder with an upward pitch on the stick and cross the controls.

As far as a Warthog doing that maneuver, I was on an A-10 Base and never even heard of one doing that kind of maneuver. However, that doesn't mean that it can't be done. Just that it takes a whole lot more skill to do it in "the Hog" than in any other plane.

  • Nice Maneuver

This one appears to be a YAK-55. I''ve flown this maneuver with RC models, but can't imagine trying it in a jet where you could flame out/stall the engines with the lateral airflow.

  • Flying sideways

    I saw a Warthog (A10 thunderbolt)
do this at the Hamilton, Ontario airshow many years ago. Still don't know how physics allowed it...
