I used to work in a shop with one of these and I found that the more holes you have to pull the air through (IE not just the eyes) the better the detail. Drill holes at all deep recesses.

Reverse application
Could this be done in reverse? Put pressure on top of the polystyrene, no need to drill holes to the model.
