Mythbusters tested by putting a block of ballistics gel underwater and shooting through various depths to see how much water would stop the bullet.
funny thing is they only found the jacket of the projectile. they mentioned they used an armor piercing projectile in the clip... AP usually means a STEEL core. so where did that bad boy go? anyone care to comment on that? i say if they tried that with a person in the pool they would b looking at a homicide case myself.
they try to make what ever they're trying to prove even more dramatic than it is.
By weensie562 1198105026and check out that 50 bmg rifle
By jay ben 1178113546The .50 BMG is an extremely POTENT round. To say that it achieves 3000/fps is a relatively mild assertion. It will certainly penetrate most forms of armor and it is extremely accurate and "effective" out to 1000 yards.
By LRN2FRGT 1174123078They were using quick expansion bullet? That would mushroom and shatter in the water. Just out of curiosity, what if they were using Full Metal Jacket Bullets?
By ashmomo 1164101260look at the video... they compare the 30-06 and the 50 BMG and they r both FMJ.
By natedizzle4550 1176527105 The .50 Cal IS a Full metal Jacketed round. Look more closely at the video.
Cheers!
like the that guy used to shoot down the chopper in the movie SWAT
By kantoi 1162631906That was the M81A1 sniper from Barrett corp. firing the 0.50 cal BMG (Browning Machine Gun) round. The M95 rifle is almost identical except for a shorter and bulkier stock due to it's bullpup design.
By Pinhedd 1160882376Wrong, that's the ai artic warfare .50. Just look closely, it's a bolt operating weapon they use, the barrett is a semi-automatic...
By kamikazeschaap 1168562459True, that is not a Barret M81A1, nor is there any such rifle. The M82 however, is a real rifle, yet bears no resembalence to the one that Jamie is using.
By lonewolf50k 1168800198Also, it doesn't look like an AW50 at all, but, with the unique muzzle break, I'd say it is an Armalite AR50 rifle.
By lonewolf50k 1168800346http://www.armalite.com/sales/catalog/rifles/ar50.htm
Appearently some people don't believe me
lonewolf is correct it is an armalite ar-50 bolt action sniper rifle they also make a magazine fed bolt action in .338 lapua.
By dodger69 1177735978armalite does not manufacture a semiautomatic receiver in the .50 BMG caliber, although the muzzle brake appears to be from an armalite design.
By LRN2FRGT 1174123289M82A1A .50 Caliber
But u can say .50 caliber Sniper and people know what u want.
(don't say 50 caliber, please...)
By eagle_pilot 1148226800their tests are so dumb.
