Many things throughout history have been invented without their having an initial purpose. Only later did they become lifesaving, convenient or otherwise indespensible. Nasa's space program is constantly slammed by small minded people asking "What good is it?" It's good is exploration, development and pushing boundaries.
Aside from all that, this door is just cool, for techno geeks and it has artistic value.
For those who ask what value does it have, ask yourself, "What value do I have?"

there are sensors in the mid part of the door and it can tell what your outline is by just opening. and it depends how far you are from the door. but the question is, if I set that type of door on my door, how will I lock it while I'm dressing up? I want doors just like on star trek.

at the centre of the door on the bars there are small sencers, that when ther is nothing in front of them (about 30cm) the bar is at the full extent. it somthing is in the space in front of the sencer then the bar is shortened untill there is nothing in front, this gives the shape effect.
