  • Strange, yes, but a fact of life

    Dogs (like many mammals) have a natural maternal instinct. They are able to sense the weaker, more vulnerable member of the pack (and in this case because the kitten became part of the family) and protect and nurture it. While in reality, the kitten is in no danger of being eaten by predators, the dog still shows this instinct in keeping the kitten close to its "den".

    Apparently Bill Murray was wrong in the whole "mass hysteria" thing..

      I was wondering how the kitten grew up, how long the chihuahua took care of the kit, what happened to mom..was kitten aggressive as she/he got older? I have a co-worker who raised an orphan kitten who is beginning to get aggressive but had no other cat or dog interaction.....

      Right now the kitten is about 4 weeks old. I wanna say from week2 the chihuahua has been taking care of her and still continues to do so. The mother was killed accidentally and then shortly after found out there was a few kittens. I think she was ran over. So far the kitten hasn't been aggressive. It still acts very sweet to the adopted parents.

      I think shes been pregnant for about 1 month, maybe a little bit longer. Last time I talked to my parents they said the kitten was still on the bottle, lol having a hard time weening it to kitten food. I don't think they are too optimistic about the puppies, I believe this is her 2nd liter, and the first liter ended up dying because of the sized of the chihuahua. She is really really small. Thanks tho, it can be very difficult finding homes for them, I'll pass the info along!

      A dogs pregnancy lasts on average 63 days. If she had a difficult pregnancy the last time they may want to consult a vet or at least get her spayed after this litter.
      As far as the kitten goes....try mixing wet (canned) kitten food into the bottle formula. a little at a time....it might take a while for her to learn to eat solid food. May want to try just putting what you are giving her in the bottle on a plate to get her used to licking ....you may need to get her nose a bit wet and encourage her to lick....if you have questions....I have done this lots....not to say I have all the answers, but I may be able to help a bit....

      Thanks for the Advice, I'll pass it along. I hope they get the dog fixed after this, 4 chihuahuas are annoying enough, more is unbearable lol. I think they are just giving up too soon or its become to easy to feed it on the bottle.

      Thanks for the piano compliment, I wouldn't be surprised if thats the only one I get on it. I guess I'm still a few lessons away from being able to full compose music for my movies.
