      Everyone here is talking as if he has practiced martial arts all his life.. Am I seeing a different post or is it that the Taekwondo martial artist's attack ratio is like 8:1 compared to the Kung Fu's martial artist? None of these guys are fearing one another as some said the TKD ma is scared...
      Also another funny thing about Kung Fu is that it never really exploded outside China. Kung Fu is especially effective if used against Kung Fu because at the time several martial artists developed different Kung Fu stances they were used only against Kung Fu martial artists meaning they were fit to defent just from Kung Fu itself. It is too close in itself to be measured with other martial arts.
      Also from the post I can also see that people are really close minded upon martial arts. People want to see people flying, kicking, punching and showing off their hardwork, training and dedication.. What people are ignoring is the reason a lot of martial arts were developed and their history. Understanding their history would make people talk a whole lot differently... But yet not even some martial artists bother to know that soo...
      Also Kung Fu stances varying from Crane, Tiger, Eagle, Snake etc are really vulnerable to many other martial arts... At the end of the day though the martial arts is the person and not just the technique.. Different martial artists apply their techniques in a different way...
      And last thing I would really be happy if people would check out more about Aikido and Daitoryou.. If people can understand the answer of these martial arts they will understand a lot more about the rest of martial arts (^_^). The difference between Aiki martial arts and normal martial arts is that the latter one takes like 3 years to get to a good level whilst in the Aiki martial arts after 3 years you would be just warming up.. Now try to understand this...

    Red Warrior I don't know why are you lining for martial arts master but it makes me feel sorry for you. And Kung fu is ( in my opinion) the most effective fighting system, because it doesn't only train your body but also trains your mind allowing you to gain almost full control over yourself and it teches you honour and respect for the opponent. And please some rfespect for the oldest matial art in the world

      are you sure that kung fu is the oldest martial art in the world? its not. for your information oriental martial arts has its roots in an even older martial art from the souther state of kerala in india and its called " kalaripayattu". it was a chinese traveller who picked it from the keralites and spread or modified it into other forms of martial arts.
      Frankly speaking i love kung fu to kalaripayattu because its more attractive than kalaripayattu. There are so many westerners who come down to my district to learn it.
      i am not one of those guys who is boasting about my culture or traditions its just that its the fact, that kalaripayattu is older that kung fu..
      By the way did you know that Gautama Budha is an indian??? I mean the oreintals are basically praying to an indian who was a hindu who founded Budhism........

      Yes, I knew about Buddha being Indian, and the fact that many Far Easterners pray to him. I'm also aware that Jesus was Jewish, and many Catholics and Protestants pray to him as well. All of it is relative, if the tenets of each religion are followed. Unfortunately, we've fallen into the "my religion is better than your religion" trap, and everyone ignores the basic concepts of their individual beliefs.

      Actually, Gautama Budha founded zen in China in the shaolin temple, he was never a Hindu practioner. Zen flourished in china because of this Indian master. He is remember as the first Zen master of China but he was actually the 28th Zen Patriarch of India. Shaolin had buddhist monks at the time but not of the zen branch. They also did not practice martial acts until Gautama's arrival. However, China had always had martial acts or chinese kung Fu. As the taoist priest were great practioners of these skills. If you examine very closely every culture has it's own martial acts shape by it's own history and culture. Brazil has capriella and the europeans had boxing, I'm sure the Romans had a few kick ass moves as well.

      I'm sorry aparrently kung fu isn't the oldest martial art in the world. I thought so but I didn't check so I apologize for this error but it still is one of the oldest still used techniques. The oldest one ( probably - correct me if I'm wrong) is adithada some form of early kick boxing.

      Kung Fu isnt actually a martial art it just means skill so being skillfull in anything means theyve got good kung fu (gung fu) ,.....''wushu'' is its proper name ,.....       first of all thanks for the e-mail. I know that kung fu is the training system the whole philosophy etc. and that wushu is the fighting, most people don't know that and consider it as two different things. And as for the effectiveness I think that kung fu trains your body in the higher rank than in other martial arts and that this philosophy allows them to train their mind which allows them to control their physiqe. For ex. the most trained ones can easily perform thiese one finger push ups which I think few people in the world can do. And to sum up its not the fighting style that your practicing that decides of how good you are but your skill. And I prefer kung fu/wushu because of the philosophy that it refers to and it does tech monks selfcontrol and respect to people.

      if you can train your mind to what these systems demand then you really dont have to hit or punch or kick or in other owrds use force to fight. all u need is a simple touch and u will see your opponent lying on the floor feets away from you.
      there was a monk from Tamil nadu ( another state in south india) who travelled to New york some time during the 50's and trained the police officers in this discipline.
      i am sorry i dont have the name of that monk or the date with me right now because the book i read is in india right now.

  • Every individual has his or her own ulti...

    Everyone hasn't got the same body type or mentality, therefor there is no ultimate martial art. Nor is there an ultimate martial artist. This shaolin practitioner might be better than any tae kwon do master (perhaps because he is used to blocking kicks), but if he fights a brazilian jiu-jitsu champion he might not win. I'm only 18 years old and no master, but I've fought shoot fighters, karate blackbelts, one judo blackbelt, Muay thai fighters, Jiu-jitsu black belts, one aikido blackbelt, one tae kwon do blackbelt, boxers, kickboxers and so on. One thing I've learned is that you can't defeat all fighters with just punches, kicks or grappling techniques. And if you train everything you're not going to master any of these (you'll be good, but not great at everything), unless you're a prodigy. You need to discover what you do best and specialize in that, without becoming a one trick pony. Practise all aspects of fightning, but let one thing be your ace of spades. That's my advice.

      From what I have seen of Jiu Jutsu, it is indeed a very effective style, but its dependance on grapling techniques, while very effective, present a signifigant disadvantage when one is dealing with more than one opponant. While one is locking one opponant on the ground, his brother is free to casually walk up and club you like a baby seal.

    i have a respect for all forms of martial arts and those who practice it. i, myself practice traditional Shaolin kung fu as well as modern Wushu. this video isnt to prove which is better, but rather to point out the qualities of both styles. the Shaolin monk uses snake style which provides an excellent defense against the Tae Kwon Do fighter. the kicks from the TKD fighter are obviously very strong and are worthy of putting a defense for.

    what i dont get is why you guys have to argue about which is better. Red Warrior, you're obviously either a practitioner of karate/TKD or a complete moron. how do i know? you attitude towards other martial arts. i find it easier to respect those who are learning or have mastered kung fu because they respect not only themselves, but everyone else in the world of martial arts. there is no wrong when you think about martial arts. you choose your own style and you stick to it. that's what martial arts is all about.

    oh course, Shaolin owns anything ;)

    Im on my friends comp checking out some fight videos.Pretty neat stuff, however i have noticed alot of people trying to discredit others or say this works this doesnt and whatnot. but i doubt any of u know since u all sit around on computers talking rather unimformed about most of your subject matter.Martial arts is an American word or term not asian, you know where it comes from.some of it is only for exercise some is for real fighting. They used this stuff to kill back then so i say go find out for yourself what works and what doesnt. Go try many different styles and make them into your own arsenal. You will find out all styles ( although most watered down now) have a specific basis, and that is effective combat.The special forces combat only started to develope after ww2 becouse we first started to learn from the asians at that point and found out this stuff works. so all this close quarters combat stuff u see our special forces use has asian backrounds. again i am on my friends account and probably wont get back to check your replys so say what u will,but my advice is youll never know unless u go and learn all u can from every source u possibly can then u might start to get the big picture,the day u stop listening and learning is the day u become deaf and stupid.arguments are a waste of time

    korea taek won do vs korea shaolin Martial Art.. not kung fu.... and also, taek won do was originated based on the Taek kwon... its a long history Martial Art from korea.. and also, karate was created by Korean.. not japanese... kung fu seems unique but not effective as taek won do... ill say bruce lee's jee kun do.. is more effective than kung fu.. because its mixed martial art between kungfu, taek won do,, and karate..

    this match ended in a draw. I saw this in a korean show a while back.

    In my opinion, the shaolin monk would've won in the long run, but the tkd guy would've won if he did kicks other than roundhouse.

    Llook, the shaolin artist is a MONK. Shaolin is only taught in the Shaolin monistary. This man has dedicated his life, excluding all else, to the mastery of his art, and his internal chi (ki, chakra, etc...). it only makes sense he would be superior. I don't kare if you're the Dai Soke of Worldwide Kempo Karate or some street thug with a 9-iron, you're not going to be able to best this guy.

    I also want to note that his use of chi is uncanny. i'm still skeptical about it's actual existance, but man, he makes you think. Look at the way his hands move to block and dodge. It's like he starts the block before the attack is thrown. What does everyone think?

    Kung Fu is the best Martial Arts Sport ... it has been developed over 1500 years ago.... my trainer...bzw coach in Kung Fu was 40 years in a real Shaolin temple in China... his reaction and his skills are amazing and unbelieveble he was 14 times world Master in Different countrys. china and so on! all other sports like teakwando and judo and Kick boxing came from Kung Fu! i know my English is not well but i hope you understand me!

    need to stop arguing about disciplines because the sad truth is that none of them hold up in today's society with everyone packing guns. There is no martial arts that can deflect a bullet.

    Now, with that being said, there is no one martial art that is the ultimate, that's why it's wise to take things like height, weight, etc into account and then taking bits from each discipline that work for each individual to become a well rounded fighter. Some low kicks, small and large joint manipulation, grappling, punches and so forth.

    Basically most real fights boil down to either a few punches, getting jumped or rolling around on the ground grappling until A) one guy gets lucky and lands a knee, elbow or suplex , B) someone jumps in a breaks it up or C) you both get tired of rolling around in the dirt and decide to call it quits.
