can somebody explain to me how the puck stays OVER the rail, and doesn't just slip off to either side? i am very interested in physics but i have no formal education in these somewhat advanced topics

    • Stream

Same idea of Using a Vacuum cleaner on reverse and holding a golf ball in the stream, if u move the stream slightly the golf ball will follow the stream.

How can this guy lift it out of liquid nitrogen without gloves on??

    • oh..

Although liquid nitrogen is -196C its still safe to handle because of its boiling effect. On anything warm a layer of nitrogen gas forms thereby protecting his fingers for a short period.

It'd only be dangerous if any of any of the liquid nitrogen became trapped

    • trapped?

you mean like if he had a cut on his finger? how dangerous would it be? what would happen to him in a case like that or other 'trappedness' that you refer to? thanks...

    • because

it wasnt that much and most of the liquid stuff was already gone to gas....thats all. he just have a very short contact with it, too.

    • dunno

probably it isnt that cold that it will kill your finger.

      By dave mech 1147707678
    • nope.

uhh its around -270 degrees (Celsius)

      By bleh 1147726275
    • Not that Cold

the temp is more like -200 C for pure liquid N2. And when ive put a small amount of dry ice on m hand it burns and thats at around -80 degrees C, So doing that would hurt like hell with N2

    • he is a pro

he timed it so that the thing was cool enough to hold and then let go as it was getting far too cold (cuz it was cooling down)

The show was about how ALIEN ENGINEERING Part 1 (FLYING SAUCER) works..the purpose of the show was to figure out how FLYING SAUCER can fly 9000 MPH in the air when there is force in the air...If u want to see PART 2 the show then TUNE IN : History Channel MAY 22, 2006 ... • unnessesary hard work

sounds like a way for the superconduct market to secure another monopoly position, instead of using a simple opposing magnet principle. What are they thinking of spraying the rails with liquid nitrogen as a form of maintenance to keep the opposing factor alive?

  • superconducting magnets are not practica...

this very interesting video demonstrates the potential of YBCO superconductors. unfortunately they are not very practical for use in maglev trains on earth at this time. the YBCO superconductor must be cooled to liquid nitrogen temperatures which consumes a lot of energy and is expensive. the YBCO superconductor is also a ceramic compound unlike normal metal conductors such as copper; you cannot easily form coils required for electric motors.
YBCO superconductors may in future find applications in deep space where cooling will not be required. These applications could include superconducting antenna and low noise microwave receiver circuits necessary for deep space to earth communications.

When they freeze worts on your hand it only hurts for a second and then your body heat will warm your fingers again, basically hes not a P***y !

  • liquid nitrogen

has one of the lowest temperatures nd almost reaches the absolut zero(-273.15).. it doesnt get colder than absolut zero.. at that stage everything just dissapears

these kind of clips coming. I've always said that there is alot more we could be doing with magnets. I definately think at some points we will be able to use magnetics in alot of different forms including transportation.

Liquid Nitrogen is about 77.8 K, thats -196 celsius ... could hurt your finger if u give it the time

  • not so good in practice

a train floating above the track, like a monorail, is only marginally more efficient than a train on non-deformable steel wheels on steel tracks - both require the same energy to overcome the force due to air resistance. Add to he equation the cost of producing monorails, and keeping them operational, and conventional trains win. This is why there are only a few hundred miles of operational monorail in the world, and millions of miles of steel track. It's a cool (quite literally) demonstration, but little more than that I'm afraid.

    • I think

That someone should make the magnetism industry boom and become the next kind of propulsion for a major automobile for everyday people

      By MOPAR_Madness 1161725747
    • Yes but

A regular train also has to deal with the friction caused by the wheels, the whole point of using electro magnetism is to make this friction almost 0, thats why the trains can get to much higher speeds.
I agree on the operational and manufacturing costs though

      By Vilo 1157338713
