It wont stop junk mail... the only way it to tell post office not to deliver .. they will .. but they will not deliver magazines or other stuff either. As far as saving trees they grow trees just for this purpose but you knew that right?

If just 2%
of people send back the reply - with no information added to it, the paper spammers will have double the cost and sorting work. If they are clever they found out who replied with a blank and take you out of the list. Problem solved.

  There are actually webites that you can use to "opt out" of junk mail (search "get rid of junk mail" or something similar on a search engine)....very similar to the "Do Not Call" List. I've heard mixed reviews. Most people say that it works really well. Others say they still get some junk. I just thought this would make a funny video. The most important part is the horrible statistics at the end. 100million trees a year? That is beyond absurd. It's sickening.
