He was the lead actor...
By santocki 1152534484 Reply Spam [+11] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveTo be precise Tony jaa is an expert in muay thai however his fighting style is not pure muay thai believe it or not his fighting style also includes several other martial art styles this includes tae kwon do, judo, aikido and even a fighting style which involves weapons like sticks and machetes read his full biography and it will say clearly, also being a tae kwon do person myself i reconise those spinning fly kicks
By she bal nom 1148916645 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis is interesting because i noticed some TKD kicks in the vid. Though i must say Judo and Aikido didn't come to mind when watching his fighting. He is skilled no delbt but i agree that his fighting is definately mixed martial arts and not simply 'Muay Thai'
By cptamazing 1154565565 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethose kicks that you mentioned, i tend to call them tornado or hurricane kicks, are apparent in most other martial arts. i myself take norther shaolin and modern wushu and those kicks are quite common among the forms i know.

Okay. First of all, the actor's name is Tony Jaa or Panum Yeerum. The movie is Tom yum goong. It's not Ong Bak 2. It's The Protector. Ong Bak 2 hasn't been released yet.
By theidleprophet 1187589093 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveDon't give me crap about spelling it Panum instead of Panum. Thai doesn't use Roman letters anyway, so it counts so long as it's phonetic.
By theidleprophet 1187589169 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehis style is not thai he made a lot of unnecesary movements to reach his opponet in thai you fight for pride not to show off

A clip every one's gotta check out!!
PEEKAPOW!!
Now that was a good match! I was rooting for the capoeirista, but then I'm biased. I knew it was over when he failed to guard the au. I may have to buy this movie just for that clip.

By Flaash 1172707465 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI practice capoeira.
Wen we fight we dont use half of that moviments.
Karate has kata´s, and we call this "Floreio". We only use it on exibitions NEVER on fight. But for the movie, floreio is much more beautiful of course...
Most of you dont know what capoeira is cause you only see it on exibitions. Usualy the real fight only happens on private "rodas".
Wich martial art is better. It depends on the fighter physical condition and knowlege.
TOM YUM GOONG! The film is NOT called The Protecter, The Thai Warrior, Revenge of the Thai Warrior or anything else! It is called TOM YUM GOONG!!!!!!!!!!
By thaitank 1161273493 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveTony Jaa or real name Panom Yeerum does not do tae kwon do or other martial arts even do he did learn several of them in university. He uses Muay Boran, the original Muay Thai, which was used to beat the Burmese in their attempts to take over Siam. Muay Boran is the hand to hand form of Krabi Krabong, the Thai weapons system. Without a doubt, Muay Boran is the most lethal and brutal fighting technique that the human mind has ever conceived. The clinching, elbows and knees and banned from all international martial art competitions, yet, Muay Thai always wins. Later on in the film, Tony Jaa uses Muay Kotchasan, the Thai counterpart of Jui- Jitsu. When Tony Jaa is stabbed, he simply defeats all his opponents with throwing and breaking techniques.

Okaaay. to all you guys who say Capoeira is usless, you dont know Capoeira. One thing that should be cleared up is that if a Capoeirista gets into a fight on the street, he's probablly not gonna do a head-spin or anything fancy unless he's trying to show off. He would probably just kick the guy in the head. (somthing you learn to do very well in Capoeira). Comparing Martial arts is hard to do. you cant say one martail art is better than the other. it depends entierly on the induviduals and their speed, strength, and stamina.
Capoeira, like any other matrial art, does have it's advantages and disadvantages. There are many positions which leave you with open sides, but in Capoeira you are trained to have super reflexes in order to escape kicks, and every escape has more than twenty ways in which your can return with a kick that just comes out of nowhere and knockes the guys head off.
Capoeira is many things. it's a game, its a martial art, and its a dance. if youve only seen the slower versions of Capoeira which are considerd more dance like, then i could understand how one would think Capoeira is not effective. But, only a complete fool could witness the Fast Capoeira and not think it's effective. I had been doing Capoeira for only two weeks when i first saw a guys get kicked, and damn, it was scary. the guy didnt get out of the way in time and caught two kickes to the face. The guy could not get up. He was bleeding from the mouth crawling accross the floor. Capoeira is Full of Fast, Powerful kicks, acrobatics, and takedowns. not only are many of the moves distracting, but the kickes that follow come from the last place you expect them to.
Capoeira is completley effective as a martial art, but even more importantly, it's a hell of a lot of fun.
ong bak it is protector but i dont know the thailand name for it
By ufc iz the best 1157392022 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWhenever there is a contest between martial arts, there always seems to be the one person who honestly thinks that one art is better than another. Their reason? "Cuz I say so!" So in defense of my beloved capoeira (which has saved my toned behind on and off the street quite a few times) I would like to list some of its benefits.
1. Its physicality. I have never met an out of shape capoeirista. Strength, flexibility, endurance, these traits are not simply required...they are essential. All the training in the world will not save you if you are out of breath in under a minute.
2. It is street savvy. Capoeira was designed as an underground martial art long before it was taught in academies. As such, it teaches us moves and positions that allow us to function on several levels. How well does the horse stance work when you're on your back? It is as unpredictable as any street fight, and capitalizes on this.
3. Its philosophy. Capoeira was not designed to win, but to survive. Mestre Bimba summed it up nicely when he said, "Capoeira is treachery". To out think one's opponent even if you are not fighting him is one of our staples. Out fight what you can't out run, and out run what you can't out fight.
4. Its culture. With such a diverse background, and facing oppression at every turn, capoeira's history is a true story of beating the odds. It is a fact that it was illegal before 1940, and practitioners of the art risked public beating and even execution if caught. Still, the music, poetry, language and its dance aspects managed to thrive.
In the end, I would like to quote Mestre Pastinha, "Those who do not know capoeira are those who do not wish to learn it".
5. You get to beat some ass while dancing to funky brazilian beats!
By hEr0 1157055099 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeif capoeira is effective or not depends on how long u have practiced it.
muay thai has it s advantages here.
even after a year of training muay thai u will be able to see some good results where as with capoeira u d probabbly still do basic dance moves etc. and most likely get your ass kicked tryin to pull off that acrobatic stuff
its from the new film with tony jaa " Revenge of the Warrior" a great film ;-)

By hEr0 1157054919 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIm learning some Krav Magra at the moment and to say its effective is understatement, the Isreali Special Forces are trained in it aswel as the SAS and Delta Force i think and many more. So yeah go ahead and learn it ul love it.
By Mighty Hellboy 1157985831 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewas actually invented in Brazil because peasants weren't allowed to have any kind of fighting style so they disguised it as a form of dance which is also where break dancing comes from. so stop freakin dissing on copoeira, in a real fight, it'll totally kick the S**t out of muay thai any day!!
By fuckin_chad 1153463321 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyou are intitled to your own oppinion but personaly i think the person doing Capoeira would go down before he could even get a kick in on the thai boxer. This is the oppinion of me and many other martial artists "Capoeira, although effective in distracing the opponent, leaves itself very vulnerable to attack when switching a combo due to its unnecissary acrobatic movements".
By cptamazing 1154565301 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAlthough I don't practise Capoeira, I've been to Brazil, and seen it used as an art form (show purposes) and as a real-life method to defense oneself on the streets.
Capoeira shouldn't be categorized as better or worse than other martial arts, as it has it advantages and drawbacks.
However, seeing the video, one should realize that fancy distraction moves don't equal to effective victory.
The Capoeira fighter acts like monkey. Yes realy great.
