My grade school science teacher showed us this at the start of the school year. He didn't show us how it was done, but each week he would let the class ask questions, trying to figure it out. Took almost the whole year before we did.

I know an easier way
for those who can't even construct this, get a piece of cardboard, lean it upwards, roll this can up it and it will come back down!
