International
There are groups trying to privatize the internet, meaning it would cost more and it wouldn't be free like it is right now (for the most part). This is a scary concept.
React against this attempt to privatize the global community we have created!

Internet is a worlwide network. No country nor firm can control of it. It's like if one guy decide to make you pay for the air you breath!

get ready for "internet 2". If you don't believe this is real, you should do a little reading.
By The_12_inch_pianist 1150606150 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWhy would anyone do this? They don't have the right to block off the internet. The internet has made of lives easier. If this actually happens then im gonna go join the rebellion.

By hugh-janus 1150638951 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt sounds like this group took one thing that AOL did last year-- which was to give faster email delivery for companies that paid an extra fee to it-- and used it to base their idea on how the internet works, LOL. Morons!
And exactly how would companies like AT
Oh, well-- that's it's loss.
Anyway, to summarize what I wanted to say, only a person who doesn't understand how the internet works would be alarmed by this dribble. ISPs could NEVER be able to do what they are saying in this video-- actual content providers and the web hosts who actually serve up the content would never allow themselves to be extorted [because that's what this bill would amount to-- extortion]. And providers and hosts are just as much heavy players on the internet as ISPs.
Customers would become outraged. This would open up an opportunity for new ISPs to compete with AT

By The Omen 1150632273 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe internet is entierely a Peer to peer based newtwork, which makes it not only the most free-to-speak form of interaction, it is essentially no-ones. People will not stand for manipulation in how we connect with each other. Doing so would alter our web surfing to full under a 'big brother'.
Saying that, this is a very real issue. Internet companies definately do have a lot of power over our use of the internet, and it's amazing something like this bandwidth altering (to exploit our connection so certain sites have fast/slower access than others; if any at all) hasn't been attempted already. Because when it does happen, it'll be a matter of time before the internet spirals into just another form of marketing from corperates, rendering it into something that's like a slightly more interactive television.
Here's hoping that some Law will be passed preventing discrimination with connection so this commercialism will never occure.
just everybody turn the PC off for a Day or two maybe even a week. then you can have a cyberDSLline all you want, you just took away the track for them.
if you can keep your hands off it long enough, excluding the porno-morons of course.
this would mean no more porn, no more free porn for sure coz you gotta pay for it. so better turn it off for sure (they got no choice anyways, lol)
By kil0wattz 1173585374 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt's not even a question of people not standing to be manipulated. There's too much money at stake. Corporations are not only ISPs; they're also content providers and web hosts. Ya think Ipod and Google are going to let this type of thing happen? How on earth could such a worst case scenario take place as to bloggers being shut out? Google OWNS Blogger, one of the biggest blogging services on the internet. Ya think Google would just roll over and let AT
By driley 1150638220 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveBloggers won't be shut out initially, just side swipped by providers who have clients willing to pay the extra fee for the speed.
On a long enough time line competition will be dominated by corporations with the most ownership and money. There will be merger upon merger.
Don't you think Google will sell out the very people it makes it's money off?
They just haven't been offered a big enough check yet. Everyone has their price.
this topic was in this months Pop Sci magazine. These big communications companies really do want to cash in on the internet... kind of sad if this happens. This will basically mean METACAFE (and other similar sites) will probably not exist in the near future. The downfalls to capitalism...

By topofthelist 1150599345 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethis is getting out of hand. one more step moving towards of privatizing the globle, as trying to own governments.
