    The plane is very light and altering the engine output means they can tailor it mid-flight to balance out the weight so it hovers.

    The military refer to such devices as "helicopters" :)

    They do have planes that can do similar. The MiG-21 Fulcrum can fly backwards (ish) for short periods (Cobra manouver I think?).
    More closely related would be V-22 planes that can rotate their engines to become common aeroplanes or dual-roto helis.

    Having a military asset do that would require either super-efficient engines (and thrust vectoring if it's a jet), mega-light airframe (no armour, no pilot no useful stuff in it really) or magic. UAVs might be able to pull it off in future..

      first comment is 100% correct... the flying characteristics of this model are directly attributable to the power to weight ratio.. but a cpl things to consider..
      a helicopter is not a fixed wing craft, it cannot roll or fly inverted (with the exception of a huey cobra, maybe its the hokum im thinking of, for a loop that is) .. the mig21 does not fly backwards.. it has to be flying at near full throttle forwards and then the pilot throws the nose up and the plane goes tail first at 75 degree angle from momentum... v-22 is a VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing).. its rotors are too large to allow it to take off as a normal plane would... it also cannot fly inverted and i dont believe it can be put into a high G climb.. it has only been recently approved to return to flying status after several crashes forced the marine corps to re-evaluate its air-worthiness

    I have two of those planes, and i fly indors all winter. this guy are realy good. i fly allmost like him, so trust me not fake. Light aeroplanes made of styrofoam or depron and a high power 3 phase electric engine and powered by Litium Polymer (Lipo)
    i think that everyone shuld tryout before stupid comments. it´s incredible fun.

    This is a good remote plane and the hover tactic is spectacular! If the Airforce or the Navy could make those they would be unstoppable except of course refueling, which means they could dodge missiles.. why didnt they? well this thing is light while the military keeps them armored and supplied. The plane rocked the house!
