  • Good news - Bad news

First the Good: technique, variety of application, showing possible follow-up techniques and finishes, showing equality among the sexes, complementing his students on how well they have absorbed the techniques, etc.
Now the Bad: showing too many techniques at once--you should never hand out several at once, but give time to practice each for greater understanding; giving unnecessary complements to the only two women in the class further sets them apart and condesends; going off on a tangent that has little to do with the technique the class should be concentrating on shows a lack of focus--very bad.

Very good technique, though. Thanks for allowing us to see it.

    • Bad News?

First, thanks for the comments. But I've got to disagree with some of them. I'm a frequent attendee at Tashi's seminars. Tashi teaches principle over technique thus the plurality of techniques. However, when we break down, there’s usually only one technique to work at a time. His seminars are definitely aimed at the more advanced, but there is something for all levels. As for the comments about the female students, he's always complementary to his uke. He won’t use someone unless he thinks they can handle it. I can say first hand it's tough being his demo partner & I think he does this as a thank you.
