It sure is funny. The monster wasn't very polite to walk in without being invited. I'm not sure why he walked in because all he did was just walked in singing to himself, and saw the cake and ate it, then he said bye to Ernie and walked back the way he came (probably walked back out the door he came in).

I like Beautiful Day Monster too. Also, it is true that they got rid of Beautiful Day Monster because he really was looking scary to kids, and on some skits with Kermit, he scared him away and at the end of skits, he would roar and fog up the screen. Also here on this skit, he was impolite to walk into Ernie and Bert's apartment and steal the cake which is another reason why they got rid of him. After they got rid of him, Herry Monster became the replacement monster of Beautiful Day Monster.

I remember this one! Beautiful Day Monster is so hilarious here doing his thing:

"Shake the crumbs, shake the crumbs, wanna clean cake, clean plate!"
"Hold napkin! HOLD NAPKIN!"

LOL! I hear that they got rid of this puppet because they felt he was too scary-looking for kids. I don't know about that though...he looks adorable to me.

There was also one where Ernie guesed that Bert was sad about peigons and Ernie was sad about not going to the zoo,something like that.

"You know how monsters like cake, Bert!!" (LOL)

The sight of BDM chomping down that cake with the crumbs flying everywhere was just PRECIOUS!!

Bert does outrage and disgust better than just about any other Muppet on the show.

I heard that Jon Stone, the director, insisted on doing all the E/B skits for free. What fun!! Pure genius.

I LOVE this one..every time we have cake my brother and I act this out. Shake the crumbs,shake the crumbs..lol

Do you also have the skit where the Beautiful Day monster dresses himself up as a baker and then as a little girl in order to get Ernie's cookies?

E:*high voice* It's your Aunt Matilda.
B:My Aunt Matilda doesn't eat cookies!

Yeah. Ernie was shhoken quite a bit of being forced to hold the evidence by the agressive BD monster.

There's another clip in which Ernie's crying because he feels like he's not special and Bert consoles Ernie and assures him that he is special. There may have been other times too.

Right. I figured Frank Oz also performed Beautiful Day Monster.

Frank Oz also does Bert. So he ran off stage, changed to the monster puppet, ran off stage again, and changed back to Bert again.

I was naive as a kid and believed Ernie's side of the story. :) It's circumstantial evidence, right? When the clip starts, Ernie is nibbling on what I assumed were leftover crumbs from somebody else.

Later, when that monster shows up for what I thought was a second time, I was really upset at Bert for not witnessing it. (How many times has that sort of thing happened to us?)

Ernie was named after the Taxi Driver and Bert was named after the Cop from "It's a Wonderful Life"-FTW.
