In IMAGINE, John was advocating the elimination of ALL Religions and ALL Governments. He saw them as the source of the "Us Against Them" mentality that has consistantly lead to the death of millions down through the years. There is no government, nor any religion that has not contributed to the suffering of human beings; either through self hate, guilt or misguided efforts to "convert" the rest of humanity.
