  testicles were where the ovaries would have been, next to the uterus. Its actually not unheard of for this type of malformation to occur. It happens because, basically, in the early stages of development we are all female, males develop from this early stage by the testicles "migrating" down to the scrotal sac. When this process doesnt fully function you can end up with testicles in your abdomen... this is usually checked for by paediatricians when a baby is born.
  
  p.s. you also have a higher chance of bollock cancer if you have had an abdominal teste
