  • Safe Drain CLeaning?

This "Eric" person has obviously never heard about liability. He has now shown a lot of people how not to do the work safely and there are those who will do it this way simply because they saw him do it. When using a drain auger you should always where at a bare minimum safety glasses. (A full face shield is preferable) In the video he actually does have the auger come out and wrap up under power. The end on these augers are bare steel wire and if the auger was to whip around and catch him in the face he could lose an eye or be cut. In addition you should always wear heavy duty waterproof gloves when doing this kind of work. Drains can harbour some very nasty bacteria, viruses, and chemicals all of which can cause serious infections or injuries under the right circumstances. I work industrial construction and most of the safety people I know would tell you that over 75% of the injuries incurred doing this kind of work happen in the home with do it your selfers. So no, you don't have to hire a professional plumber to clean your drains. But please, spend the extra $10.00 and get some safety gear and then use it.
