Secret Folder

I have Vista Business. Nothing I do can delete it?????

1. go to run (windows+r)
2. type- cmd -then press enter
3. type- cd desktop -then press enter
4. type- ren "alt+1060" foldername -then press enter (don't forget the speechmarks)
5. now you can drag it to recycle bin

Would you suggest a procedure if you do not have a num-pad like in case of a laptop.

open command prompt

navigate to desktop directory

then do

rename "alt-0168" temp
(with the quotes but where it says alt-0168 you have to hold alt and press 0168, like when you made it)

this should rename the folder to temp, then you can delete like normal

click/press delete won't do; can't drag to recycle bin or any other folder. can you reverse the changes so that i can name the folder?

for labtop owners it is a tad bit different
create a new folder
customize to a blank icon
and go to start menu, then all programs , then accesories the system tools find on bottom "Character Map'' scroll down and select a blank spot press the copy button and rename " New Folder" by pasting or pressing ctrl+V

hey i had the same problem but i fixed it just then. you have to rename the folder first. go to start>run and type cmd.

and type "cd desktop" without the speech marks

and now type ren "****" foldername


*** where the stars are do the alt+0160 thing and now the folder will be renamed and you can delete it.

How i can do it on Notebook?

this is way too complicated :p

if you want a folder to be hidden

1. open command prompt
2. type in " attrib ... ( here comes the adress of the folder you want to be hidden, for instance c:windowssystem32 ) +h
3. there ya go a hidden folder
4. if ya want it to be unhidden do step 2 again but instead of +h add -h

i`m deleting new folder name, than clicking alt than 0160 and when i`m cickin off its name is new folder and nothing changes

I found it difficult to delete in Vista. Finally i found the solution. You'll need WinRAR. right click on the folder and "add to archive". give a name for archive and tick "delete files after archiving" and click "OK". the folder will be deleted by WinRAR and you can easily delete that archive. Good Luck

All it does is hide the icon on the desktop. Anyone can still find the folder if they access "My Computer" and navigate to it's location.

UNLESS YOU SWITCH YOUR KEYBOARD FROM ALPHA MODE TO NUMERIC BEFORE RENAMING THE FOLDER. WATCH IT THAN EMPY. ENJOY ALT+0160

if you have done this in XP make sure you have rename that folder (name as you want, except alt 0168) before installing Vista if have not do that your alt 0168 no name folder data will vanish away! it happened to me! I manage to recoved wasted more than hours time and reinstal xp to vista again :)

Just a response to Amberkhan for using a laptop to create a secret folder, use the following when renaming it.

Press the Fn key together with Alt Gr and then 255 (use the blue numbering associated with the Fn key)

I deleted it in under 10 seconds, i just pressed delete and then it was deleted

press (FN) with (F11) to be (NUMLK)
then do the same but dont put this number (0160) press the word ( MJOM )

For people who don't know how to delete (vista - problems)

1. Vista sux
2. Try use "Shift+Delete" more offten. (Instantly Deleting any file)
3. Get Windows® XP, with Vista Theme (Looks like Vista working better and faster)
4. Get Windows® XP That was converted to Vista (Work's, Look's like Vista)
5. Enough being a noobs
6. If you not sure, Don't use!

If you do all of the steps except hold the alt key and press numbers, the folder can still be hidden, and secret, but can be deleted no prob.

Just click delete and it goes, just like any other folder

I just clicked delete, and simply it was deleted. now it is in Recycle Bin.
