Taylor Hicks Wins 'American Idol'
When you vote for the President , you only vote once , on the american idol , you can vote for 2 hours on the phone as many times as you can , it's not fair . on a smilar show on ABC about american inventor , you can vote only 5 times , even if you call 100 times , so only 5 of your votes will count , this is better , but i hope next year they will change this stupid system , and i stoped watching this show since the night that Chris Daughtry was voted off , since the mid season Chris proved he is the only american idol .
By L F 1148599390 Reply Spam [+7] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI agree that Chris Daughtry was the best contestant, very disappointing he didnt make it.
By Dalgould 1148649648 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveTaylor deserved to win. Cousin Jeb fixed Bush's first election. So which voting system S**ks ?
By fuzzylogic 1148807408 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou have to be of age to vote for the President. Just think of how many voters on this show are underage. There's also the text messaging......
By madhatter 1148657165 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou should get a life... It's only actors and singers. They don't mean a thing!!.
By Sonnysideup 1148822757 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethat America can't see talent, there was only one Idol "Chris"
By mark d 1148553619 Reply Spam [+4] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removechris was the idol but thats ok
By falconfan 1148555682 Reply Spam [+3] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveChris Daughtry should have won. He was the true "Idol"
By ghosthunter 1148677358 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removetoo. The last 4 or 5 was equally good. Chris had a nice body. We thought for sure, he'd been the next. I was and wasn't surprised but I thought Catherine would be off before the last 2 girls. She don't put enough in her voice. With practice, she will be good. I have nothing against Taylor for being 'Gray'. With a few dance lessons and more voice training, he'll be good too. Yes, I thought that comparing the voting with voting for President was stupid too. I keep saying every year, I'm not going to watch it and some how it takes up that dull moment when nothing else is on. Did anyone see Kelly Clarkson on the Country Awards, sang with Roscoe Flatts. She was not good and it probably had something to do with the horrible outfit she was wearing. No doubt designer. Poor girl probably could not breath. The pants were so tight, her butt was enormous, and it look like tree limbs up around her face. A total mess.
By Sooze 1148674219 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeits kinda retarded tayler won......people liked him because they liked watching him dance....thats no reason to win a singing compatition. If you shut yur eyes and just listened to him sing, hes really not a good singer. Kat was a far better singer than tayler.
And people voting for him for his dancing is stupid cause if you buy his cd, you cant see him. I think Kat was the best singer, but Chris was my fav. Simon was acually right from the begining, he just didnt count on people liking his dance moves
He sings not bad, just a bit out of tune, but that's not important, is it really? haha
By chiv 1150908753 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewas a complete reminder of what I have not been able to accomplish at my present age of 29; a stake reality of what lies ahead and what little time I have to accomplish it.
Today, my day at the office is filled with gloomy thoughts and an insatiable desire to do all within my power to rise above my present circumstance and environment. To facilitate this process I have begun surfing for opportunities on the net and taken the resolve to resurrect perceived inherent talents which I have, and plowing that into something productive. I believe these are the steps to take amongst others. I want to be able to say in five years to come that I have lived the Nigerian dream and to hear my folks say, “Annie you make us proudâ€Â. Thank you Taylor Hicks for the wake up call, you did make me proud.
Yesterday as I watched Taylor Hicks render his debut single “Do I make you proud?†I could not help the tears that rolled down my checks neither could I stop the nagging voice in my head which kept asking “have you made your folks proud?†Certainly Taylor Hicks has lived the American dream of persevering to the end to become the fifth American Idol at the age of 29. He defied all challenges that confronted him and was focused to the end. He rendered every music piece at the competition unique to his personality, exuding a sound that can only be Taylor Hicks. This was not only made possible by hard work and dedicated prowess to achieve, but also by the opportunity proffered by the organizers of the American idol.
I needed to share my thoughts with someone, because I could not stop singing the chorus to Taylor Hicks’ song. Turning to my sister I said, “if only we had such opportunities in Nigeria, we would also churn out talents of all kindsâ€Â; and she could not agree more. Nigeria, as has always been portrayed, is a great nation with abundant natural resources and a booming oil industry, but with nothing to show for it due to economic factors that have been attributable to a dysfunctional system of government. I am a product of the Nigerian system and have been in constant struggle to live the “Nigerian Dream†of being successful and able to cater for the needs of my family and basically partake in the good life. The struggle has been an uphill task with difficulty in being within the corridors of opportunity. Opportunity abound they say, and one just has to pay attention to the details of what happens in his environment to catch in on an opportunity; a scenario which unfortunately does not always translate into success and is neither as easy as it seems.
A look at the American environment tells a different story, it shows a picture of a society that is ever evolving and investing in talents by providing opportunities severally associated with the concept of rising up the social ladder in a typical rags-to-riches situation. Many Nigerians such as the late M. K. O. Abiola is a shinning example of being at the right place at the right time, and doing just the right thing that was necessary for the moment. This does not happen every day, like the eclipse, it is a rare occassion. yet, we can not help but ask ourselves, “what would we be remembered for?â€Â
Taylor Hicks song does ring a bell which reminds me of the little time we have left to sojourn on earth. I would have a PhD degree at the end of this year; presently work on a job that pays $1,369 a month after tax; own a second hand car and live by my own means. But, I still have not attained the dream of building a house, providing sufficient up-keep allowance for my parents and siblings, own a company or work for one that pays $15,000 a month, and have two male children. The song “do I make you proud?†was a complete reminder of what I have not been able to accomplish at my present age o
Also guys. wouldn't the voting be coming form overseas. unless they only aired it in America.
By Destructo Boy 1148605064 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt was shown in the UK on Fridays so we didn't get to vote.
By fuzzylogic 1148808181 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removenot sorry.
By Swanie 1148590702 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI like to catch any idol shows when they start - just to watch the people who THINK they can sing, lol. I never watch once the show actually "starts".
By madhatter 1148657003 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI've seen clips or segments of those people singing "accapella" (spelling?) and I can't switch stations fast enough! lol
By BowWow 1148671183 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveGo check out "Super Star Is Fun" and see how far you get! ( just watched it )
By madhatter 1148674484 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeamerica actually has better talent then any of dem...its just a show!
By Baby_G 1148584693 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAmerican Idol is a great show, and time will show its importance.
It has been a long time since the death of variety shows, where new talent was continually being discovered- unlike today, where any twit with a recording device can burn millions of CD's and artificially flood the market with junk.
Those of you who do not like American Idol seem to have forgotten what this show is (if indeed you ever knew). In the old days, musicians used to wean out the weak with "cutting contests", and only the most viable professional talent was left standing. This is the baptism by fire all your great jazz and classical artists passed through.
I picked Taylor Hicks to win from the outset, in part because he (unlike many of you) is a kind, gracious, polite, simple soul, whose only desire is to make as many people as possible happy. Put him down and slam him if you like, but I personally can't think of a higher calling.
Taylor Hicks got more votes than the president? Good for him. I like him better than the president, anyway.
Then the US needs to change voting systems! From now on, people should be able to vote for the President over the phone! Now Presidential candidents will try to win over the large majority of Americans: THE COUCH POTATOES!!!
By HanDuet 1148587172 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveDoesn't anyone else think it's shameful more people vote for this than the presidency?
By musicgirl 1148585376 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethan voted for the Pres, it's because it's a release from their mundane lifes. Whereas voting in a US election doesn't actually feel so good in the long run. Just my thoughts, yours can be different, that's the joy of free speech. """(:)@
By Teddy_bare 1148654138 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeto compare the number of votes to Presidential votes, but you don't need to be of age to vote for this junk. Plus, the voting system has been proven to be seriously flawed. I wish this show would sink like the Titanic.
By madhatter 1148575693 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyea taylor won.
By falconfan 1148555648 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI admit Chris is a good singer, but he's too 1-dimensional, like Simon said repeatedly, ... he's only good with rock songs, he did bad on other genre, and that's exactly why he got voted off. Kat and Elliot got a very very good vocal, while Hicks has a very unique and distinctive voice, when he sings, you just know it's Taylor Hicks. Probably the best top 3 of all American Idols so far.
