Japanese company Genepax presents its eco-friendly car that runs on nothing but water.

The car has an energy generator that extracts hydrogen from water that is poured into the car's tank. The generator then releases electrons that produce electric power to run the car. Genepax, the company that invented the technology, aims to collaborate with Japanese manufacturers to mass produce it.

This sounds really great, however it seems to me that this development seems to get something for nothing! When I studied engineering its my recollection that while there was great deal of energy contained in the 'oxygen-Hydrogen' molecule, it was bound up as a water. It takes a great deal of energy to split this bond and there are not many ways to do this effectively. Nature has found a way using the power from sunlight, but there has to be an energy input to split this molecule, where does this energy come from, and if it is available how do you get more energy out to burn as fuel than you put in. Otherwise it would be easier to just run the car in this energy source instead would it not?

  • Here are some questions

How is the water seperated? It is suppose to use a membrane of some kind... now what is the cost of replacing this membrane? This will be the most expensive part of the car if it even works. And if they did get it to work why use it in a car only? This technology can be use world wide so why are there not millions of companies giving these guys billions of dollars? people say oil in the issue ..NOT it is money and that makes the world work.

    • yes

even now if your car is running on fumes, you can pee in the tank and it will run another several miles depending how much pee you have.
