Global Warming 101

1998 was not the the warmest year 'in measured history'. Global temperatures, that have been measured as far back as 2500 BC by means of ice-cores and rock-cores, show the Egyptian Old Kingdom Warm Period (1500-600BC) enjoyed at least 200 years when temperatures were way higher than 1998. In 1998 surface global temperature was recorded at +0.7 celsius. Between 1200 and 1000 BC temperatures were on or slightly above +1.0 celsius. Also, during the Medieval Warm Period (900 - 1350 AD) there was a stretch of 80 years when global temperatures were between +08 and +09.
When you look at the temperature charts for the past 4500 years you can see clearly that major temperature swings are nothing unusual. There have been at least 75 of them since 2500 BC.
For instance, the video omits to mention a major cool-down in 1991-1992, when global temperature fell sharply from +0.6 to -0.2 celsius.
There's also been another sharp decline in temperature since 2007 - from +0.6 to -0.5.
Arctic sea ice is not shrinking in an alarming way, as strongly implied by the video, quoting NASA studies. What the NASA studies actually showed was that there has been SOME shrinking in some parts of the arctic but that it is not serious or dangerous. The most curious thing found by NASA was that during the past 100 years global daytime temperatures have risen by 0.7 celsius but NIGHTTIME temperatures have risen by only 0.2.
If there was a "Greenhouse Effect" temperatures should go up at night too. Today, most serious scientists regard the Greenhouse Gas hypothesis as refuted - invalidated by empirical data.
Readings from the Vostock ice core show that global warm periods precede increases of atmospheric carbon (Co2). In other words, Co2 doesn't increase heat - heat increases Co2 production.
There's no evidence of any connection between Co2 emissions and increases in temperature. For example, since 2000 Co2 emissions have gone up by 4% but global temperatures have gone down by 24%.

The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) has still not presented any scientific evidence that the cause of global warming is human.
