    the 2 hostages are still having nightmares of this , it was very tense ordile for them , no one would dare to be in their shoes , the look on the face of that frighten poor girl , tells you everything , during the struggle the grenade fell of that animal's hand , inside the truck , so he didnt have any chance to escape , in this video that part was cut , but you can see how everybody was running away from the truck .

    There is better footage of this else where showing the grenade go off in the pickup truck just has the girl makes it safely out. The kidnapper is blown to bits.

    Absolute genius! It was a very brave thing for the policeman with the gun and the woman rescuer to have done. Too much sound, or the bloke turning around and all four of them would have been ended.

    I just saw a part of this clip on dutch television.
    It was with "The world's scariest explosions caught on tape".
    You see the girl walking about, and then BOOM granete goes off.

    You just can't protect yourself against suicide killers...

      So once you've pulled the pin on the grenade, do you just throw it or do you have to life the handle first?I'm not an expert on explosives(oh and for all the CIA agents on my back, I'm not trying to find out how to blow people up!)

    • Grenade mechanism

      A fragment hand grenade mechanism is simple,

      The pin is a small cylinder attached to a ring (for an easy pull), that cylinder is inserted between the grenade's handle and the body. The pins job is to keep the handle from detracting from the grenade, a process which then ignites the 3 seconds fuse and blows up.

      The handle of the grenade is attached with a spring to the body so once the pin has been released and there is no pressure on the handle, the grenade sets off its detonation procedure.

      What the hostage did is simply release the pin and held back on the handle to prevent from the detonation to occur. The reasons why the cops did not shoot the guy dead was because that if he died, the handle would of lost the pressure and started the detonation stage. Once the detonation stage occurs there is no turning back and thus the grenade would of exploded and killed the 2 hostages.
