Their actual names were Vicki, Dixie, and Betsy Ross and they originated from Colorado City, Texas. Their song in Picadilly Hayride (Five Minutes More) was later covered by Frank Sinatra. They were summoned to a command performance before the King and Queen of England on Nov. 4, 1946. I have no idea how they came onto the scene in New York (did stage and revues there) or what happened to them afterwards.

These ladies appear in this movie named "Showboat Serenade" in 1944. They also appeared in The Three Stooges short "Gents Without Cents" also from 1944. In both they appeared as 'Lindsay, Laverne & Betty'. Also, this music is used in "The Godfather", when Tom Hagen goes to see Jack Wolz in Hollywood ...

SO much EXCELLENT music, and so many TRUE performers in the 50's and 60's.
This video just goes to show the TALENT, and MULTI-talent that was out there back then!!

And yes, there was a "slight" sexual tinge to the whole performance, but SOO innocently performed! The swinging 60's eh? ;-)

Does anyone know what happened to them? A REALLY extensive search (even in archane areas of the web) turns up nothing about these girls. The last thing that can be found about them is that they were in a London Stage Review called Picadilly Hayride in 1947. After that they just drop off the face of the earth, although their song from Picadilly Hayride was still being sold with their name attached as late as 1956. But there is no other mention of them. They appear to be totally forgotten.

I kind of long for the days when entertainment was within human dimensions - just what a body could do spinning a plate or making cartwheels - I guess that is why I still miss the Ed Sullivan show. All the techno breakthroughs are really nice and serve their purpose, but we have gone to a place where there is too much emphasis on sex and violence, and there is a jadedness in the public now that translates into a need to top the latest depiction of the Apocalypse with yet more gore and fireworks. I hope one day we retreat from that.

I've never seen anything like that. The music, the camerawork, the set design, even the cute goofy lyric, and their confidence, it's what TV should be. I'd watch more TV if this were on instead of American Idol, America's got Talent, Rockstar, Last Comic Standing, etc... It kind of relaxed me instead of that vicarious embarrassment that occurs with modern shows. It's nice. Not that I'm one for romanticizing the past but at least the shows were pleasant.
