Sorry, but what you're saying is irrelevant to this example. I'm simply explaining what I'm playing. I know there are other directions you could take this in, but that's not the purpose of this lesson.

  • In your demo you ...

In your demo you used D Aeolian (F Ionian). In Santana cover you use D pentatonic min with an occasional 9th as does Santana and Green. Chords are the same in both versions. It is an anomaly to find a minor tune with a minor V chord. I didn't say you played harm minor scale. It's the reason for Major dom chords in minor tunes since 1750. The C# in (3rd) A7 is the leading tone of D minor. Argue with Bach! You can play a different scale on every chord, if you want. you can even play F# Ionian!

  • Antarblue, what in ...

Antarblue, what in heaven's sake are you talking about? None of what you wrote applies to this demonstration. I was referencing the Santana version which does not use A7#9 or the harmonic minor scale. I used the notes D E F G A Bb and C just as Santana did in the original recording. That's the D minor (F major) scale! I think you need to watch this video again and more closely.

  • Theory? The A in ...

Theory? The A in Black Magic Woman as composed by Peter Green is an A dominant not minor (A7#9.) This is common practice harmony since 1750. It invokes the harmonic minor scale. By the way, it works much better to convert all chords to minor scales ala Pat Martino then the other way around. Neither Peter Green's or Santana's solos or the ones you just played are in D aeolian (F maj). They are basically D minor pentatonic.

  • What theory? Peter ...

What theory? Peter green wrote it. It's a type of blues: i -V7- i - IV -I-bVII-bVI. It's like pentatonic minor all the way through with an occasional 9th and iv triad arpeggion.
