I Study English

The United States has degenerated into banal communication because so few are involved with wordplay and the rest don't even read. And theirs is worse than illiteracy in the past because they can read only they choose not to, and they are not obliged to be creative with their language because speech is standardized through the media. This is the great sadness I would rectify if I were king. I would make society whole again so that artisans and craftsmen breed new ideas and make things with their hands and their minds, things that spring from their inner nature and a sense of composition born from their surroundings. Urbanism would reconnect the lonely suburban masses and hopefully spark life into the long atrophied appendages of the American populace. It's a selfish pursuit as much as it is care for the ocean of empty souls I pass by everyday. I want to walk to the store and work at a cafe but there is no store and there are no cafes. All I see are SUVs and satellite dishes, lawnmowers and locked doors. I might kill myself but then I would be as useless as those who cannot see. So one day I will gain the power that others seek in vain and I will correct the wrongs their vanity has entrenched.

...people who have lived in the U.S. for a long time & still refuse to learn how to speak English. Only in the U.S. that we cater to every foreigner who won't speak the language.

wow i couldnt understand a think you said.. ana min ilemirat ba3ad, however my english is comprehendable :P . i think what she was trying to say was that it is compulsory for us to take both english and arabic in our academic system, i wonder why she brought that up though.. as for the clip - for someone who took 7 years of english .. she must not be very bright.. english is probably the easiest language to master~ i think if the interviewer asked her the questions in an engrish (japanese / english) accent she would have responded promptly and accurately

There are differences between British English, American English and Australian English.

For me Japanese language is easier to learn than english.

i learn English and French in my country, Serbia... english is easier to learn cuz there is less grammar and similiar stuff than in french and there is a lot of movies on english.. there is less on french.... i can barely come up with one word on french, but i speak english fluently... and i learn french for bout 8 years...

Their writing skills are probably equivalent to that of someone that has been learning english for 7 years, but their speaking and sociolinguistic skills are not on par. This is very common with students studying english in Asian countries; since they don't get to speak english with many people; but they've got the techniques and grammar for writing; but it's hard for them to apply in speech

but after having studied 7 years, one is expected to be fluent at least in basic questions lol. japanese people have a very hard time learning other languajes, but theirs is hard enough for us.

why is someone who doesnt speak english ignorant.. her language is probably one of the most complicated written languages which has 3 different alphabet systems that i know of. in other words, her language is alot more sophisticated that the language you impose on others... your probably american too, you should be the last to talk about language.. if your searching for ignorance look no further than your own self :) btw english is my second language~ bet i speak and write it better than you do ;P

I agree with you that he should not expect someone in Japan to speak English; you also should not simply assume that all Americans are like that. There are jerks and idiots from every nationality and country around the world no exception. Oh and the Japanese language has 4 alphabets Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji, and Romanji.( Yes I do speak Japanese).

hit the nail right were you must we flemich people in belgium speak atleast 4 & 6 languages only thing americans do is give comment when someone makes a spelling or gramma fault,but they exspect an answer in english were ever they go in this world.

Most places in Japan require at least a 4 year degree before they will let you teach. (the big places anyway) your statment just displays your blatent ignorance.
