MTV "Total Request Live" host Lyndsey Rodrigues today launched Acne Rumor Control (www.AcneRumorControl.com), an online campaign and video contest to debunk common acne myths and help teens get clearer skin without having to go through the struggles she experienced while on national TV.
Acne is often viewed as an unfortunate "rite of passage" for millions of teenagers, with almost 85 percent experiencing the common skin condition during their adolescent years.1 However, many people don't realize that acne is not just a "teen phase" – people often break out during their 20's, 30's and beyond.2 While chocolate and greasy foods are often blamed as culprits for causing pimples, acne is actually a long-term skin condition partially caused by hormones3 and genetics.4
