Offering an array of skin care treatments, Dr. Mandell-Brown is able to help patients wishing to reduce the appearance of tattoos. With the use of a specialized laser, the pigments of a tattoo can be vaporized one layer at a time. The process may produce blood spots throughout the skin, but generally the laser is not projected too deep. The laser simply penetrates the skin deep enough so that the pigments can be reduced, usually within 30 minutes sessions. With laser tattoo removal, the patient should know that the deeper the laser pierces the skin, more scarring will appear. Although the process may leave the skin sensitive for a few days following the procedure, the patient may begin to see more dramatic fading within another month. As Dr. Mandell-Brown notes, a tattoo may be more expensive to be removed than it is to be placed on the skin. The number of laser tattoo removal sessions required to see fading within the tattoo may depend on the tattoo age, color, and quality. Some removal sessions can go from five to seven, or more.
