  • Dosnt come out right

    I did the exact method and rechecked it I tried 82x58 which everyone knows equals 4,756 lol. But I ended up getting 40-74-16. Or how about 88x88 which is 7744 using this method you get 64-128-64. Im going to try this on others but Im afraid this may only work on lower numbers.

    • A thought...

      The 40-74-16 for your first example, if you think about it, does actually come out correct. Think of each number as an increasing position... 16 = the ones number, 74 = the tens number, 40 = the hundreds number. Using this mentality, 74 tens would be 740 + 16 = 756. 40 hundreds would be 4,000 + 756 = 4756. So, in a way it does come out to the correct answer, but you have to use a lot more work than you really need to, so it's really making the whole multiplication process take 5 times longer than it should. I guess you'd get faster at it if you did only this method, but why bother?

    How would you apply this method using in hundreds or even thousands would you just apply say 10 by 10 or just repeat and add?
