Saving a koala joey from his dead mother pouch.
It is important to check any dead animals, as they can still be carrying young in their pouch.
Pouches can be hard to get the joey out of, so very carefully cut the pouch (only if the animal is dead!) to remove the animal, or leave the joey in the pouch and take mum and bub to your nearest wildlife shelter or vet.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

Keep up the fantastic work!
By PierreR 1216242052 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removebut the joey is so covered in s***
By MartianBot 1216190299 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt's not s*** but pouch goo. Pouches are lubricated with a natural oil from mum to keep their skin soft until they grow fur :o)
By knowlesmith 1216196660 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWas the mom hit by a car or something? You can hear traffic in the background.
By cpnpicard1 1216175452 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYes, sadly mum was hit by a car and died, a kind lady stopped and checked mum and found this little guy still alive in her pouch. Very important to stop and check. Cars and dogs are the biggest killers of koalas.
By knowlesmith 1216196801 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveSo wonderful what this 'angel' did for the little joey. With that said, how does one care for a joey of that size? Do they put it into a makeshift pouch and then bottle-feed it, or do they try to have it surrogated out to another female Koala? Just wondering. Thanks for sharing, although I will have to say I cringed during the snipping. :0)
By muggee 1216158247 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYes the joey goes into a pouch and needs constant heat. His skin needs to be "oiled" with a special cream I make up, until he gets fur. A joey this size, 135grams, needs to be fed every 3 hours, this is right through out the night as well.
