A virtual geological trip over one of the most spectacular geological features in our solar system.
The largest canyon system in the solar system. Mars Valles Marineris. It extends east-west about 3,000 km, spans 700 km across and digs more than 8km deep. (some 7 times longer, 40 times wider, and 4 times deeper than Earth's Grand Canyon).
A video produced by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Arizona State University. To make the video, a high-resolution mosaic was combined of photos taken at infrared wavelengths by NASA's Mars Odyssey orbiter with more than 50 million altitude measurements recorded by NASA's Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft.
