Dear vijaykumar ji,

I would like to know about your thought on vegetarinism X non-vegetarinism. Though i'm a pure vegetarian and strongly believes in it, i feel it difficult to explain to my wife (who is a non-veg) that she should stop non-veg completely. Shouldnt i provoke a non-vegetarian and ask him to go to vegetarian food? Or just ignore them?

I have heard people saying that even plants have feeling and pain, so what difference it makes being a vegetarian and non vegetarian? a vegetarian is ultimately killing a plant

Dear Rajesh,

If we intake a vegetarian meal... compared to the nonvegetarian meal... it is much better on the spiritual path! We may eat meat available in the market... still, we never know under what circumstances the animal was killed. Killing a mother buffalo (having young siblings) and selling its meat in the market... the doer and the consumer both gets punished!

So is not the case with vegetation. The entire species of vegetation has been termed as one sense Jiva (termed as one indriya Jiva... living being in Hinduism). Killing one indriya Jiva for the sake of food does not attract any sin... this was how the system of evolution was built! But excess consumption or killing of anything... beyond requirements is a sin.

If we hunt a duck for meal... it is okay! But if we hunt two more for the sake of pleasure... we attract sin! Consumption of non-vegetarian materials is not a taboo... ask the people living in the Tundra region where there is no vegetation! For invocation of positive thoughts... pure thoughts... consumption of pure vegetarian food is desirable!

Bhagavad Gita... the most sacred Scripture of Hinduism advocates remaining pure all the time. This is only possible when we consume vegetarian food! Under no circumstances must we be the cause of death of animals having dependants. This activity attracts heavy penalty... as such sins are never forgiven in the domain of God.

Many people world over have a tendency to leave food in the plate after meals. This tendency of wasting precious food attracts a larger sin... then people ever think of! There are many who go empty stomach for days together. In the circumstances... wasting precious food is sinful... be it vegetarian or not vegetarian!

In whatever walk of life one be... we must always care for food. It is only by preserving and consuming the minimum... the balance in the cosmic system gets maintained!
