Deep zoom into the Mandelbrot set. Awesome music by Technetium. High-quality versions of this and more fractal animations are available on HPDZ.NET.

Wikipedia has a few good articles: Probably the best is "Fractal Art". The article "Mandelbrot Set" is also good, and there are a few articles on other specific types of fractals as well (Newton, Nova, etc). They also have an article on fractals in general but it is pretty technical. The Wikimedia Commons has a small section on fractal animation.

It is an animation of zooming in to a part the Mandelbrot set. It's a bit too much to go into in this small space, but there is an explanation (not very good) on my site (HPDZ.NET), as well as some links to other better explanations on other sites. Please check it out -- it's a fascinating subject!

Basically, it shows what happens when a very simple mathematical equation is repeatedly appiled over and over an infinite (or very large) number of tmies. Although the equation is very simple, incredible complexity emerges because it's repeated many times. The result is called a fractal. This zoom-in goes to a scale so large (10 to the 78th power) that if the starting image were the size of a subatomic particle, the ending frame would be larger than the size of the universe!

At any rate, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Yes. There's a cool side-effect of watching a couple of minutes of zooming in ... you get a weird zooming-out illusion for a few seconds after the animation stops. It's due to neural adaption in the parts of the visual system that perceive motion. Somewhere on the internet there's a spinning spiral you can stare at for a minute, and when you look away, everything is swirling around. It's really weird.
