Strong pressure on power station
This was taken at a substation owned by Edison south of Boulder City, Nevada, near Las Vegas.
The crews had been having trouble exercising the switchgear, and had begun taping work in this station to document problems, if and as they occurred.
When the mechanical switch didn't open properly, the resulting phenomenon that you see is called a jacob's ladder. The arcing discharge continues until there is not enough current to continue "feeding" the growing arc, the arc is too large to sustain, or a breaker or other such safety device in the system trips. thereby cutting the current.
I could not explain better the Jacob's Ladder effect! Thanks man!
By Scorpion3:16 1216536567Judging by the rural nature of the background, its probably a cross-country substation with a local feeder line. And its probably closer 786,000 volts, at a few thousand amps. It's most likely that spring loaded mechanisms that open the breaker, were damaged causing them to open too slowly.
By mark siege 1216446841PLEASE DONT READ THIS!U WILL GET KISSED ON THE NEAREST POSSIBLE FRIDAY BY THE LOVE OF UR LOVE.2MORROW WILL BE THE BEST DAY OF UR LIFE.HOWEVER IF U DONT POST THIS COMMENT TO AT LEAST 3 VIDEOS U WILL DIE IN 2 DAYS.NOW UV STARTED READIN THIS SO DONT STOP NOW!THIS IS SOOO SCARY.SEND THIS TO ATLEAST 5 VIDEOS IN 143 MINUTES WHEN UR DONE PRESSF6 AND UR CRUSSHES NAMEWILL APPEAR ON THE SCREEN IN BIG LETTERS THIS IS SOO SCARY CUZ IT ATUALLY WORKS!!!!!
By skinzy_9 1220509865looks real but the perseption of the intense voltage can cause something similar to that but i say good job
By zanescott 1216495655yes air has breakdown voltage so dont think u safe coz u far away and yes voltage can be reffered to as pressure if u an amature and Humid air will have a much greater number of ions that can more easily facilitate a current through it.
Also, the breakdown voltage of dry air is 30kV/2.54cm. that means at 30kv u can git fcuked if u 2.54 cm away from the source!!!! and yes i'm not a geek i jus know this stuff
feels like it's fake... come to think of it.. if there's that explosion or something there... on the end part of the video.. the guy just walking normallhy.. he could have heard something in there and either he panick and run away or he'll stop and watch what's going on.. besides, how did this video taken?? anticipating that there's gonna be something like this would happen??
By mr_anime19 1216467157STFU! Really, if you don't understand the subject on which you are speaking. Guaranteed you will end up sounding stupid. Like you just did!
By B.C. 1216492842look who's talking... well, i'd rather be stupid than someone who curse others cause of a comment... i said that 'FEELS LIKE ITS FAKE".... so what if i don't know much bout science... at least i use my language properly.. why not be like knickknack who comment and give information about this(Jacob's Ladder)... he's been helpful... and drinkgamer comment (and that guy wasnt running like hell).. same idea as mine... have life dude... just because i comment negative, u have the right to curse me and call me stupid,,,
By mr_anime19 1216985236Voltage is the pressure on the electrons that force them to tyraverse the conducter and overcome its resistence in this case the air. The bright light you may call an arc is the actual burnning of the air by the friction of the electrons in the air .
By Ole Tex 1216443004voltage is the potential difference between two charged bodies. it has nothing to do with pressure. but a lot to do with force
By bearcatfan14 1216489446goes up every time this clip is posted. A couple of months ago, it was only 100K. LOL
By DaveBee57 1216430658about facts anymore. Everything is about shock value.
Yea, I've seen it before too. Great clip though. You have any doubt that air has a breakdown voltage? Not anymore. :D
By CelticMadScientist 1216434025How the hell was anyone there to video this? I'd be a couple of miles away
By dachopper 1216425796how much power was spent in these few seconds?
By wahoomy 1216407742more like a quarter million, give or take a couple hundred thousand.
