actually i think it may be a black racer found in the usa . they are really fast and will chase you and then reteat when chased

Those people complaining, I guess you live in a concrete jungle where think little about the food chain. This snake is defending itself, from an attacker, which could be any natural predator that eats snakes. So it's not like this is a "bad" encounter. Think of it as a "normal" encounter.
