Name of the pedestrian is Scott Tegtmeyer. He survived, due to the initial car on car collision making a big enough dent in the car that hit him, that when it rolled over, it didn't crush him.

Is knowing the guy was doing his own thing, not realising within seconds his life was to be over, crossing the street possibly thinking of where he was headed; possibly home to catch up with friends?, to the shop to get milk?, maybe even singing the words to his favourite songs or complaining about the heat, walking home not even looking at the cars on the street, ? - such simple things, but not in the slightest even thinking within three seconds he could be physically shredded, having absolutely NO IDEA! Doesn't it break your heart? This guy dressed that day, with intentions to see the night through, to possibly kiss his babies or his woman good night? To go to golf the next day, or to meet up with friends. Oh the terror this man felt, walking across the street, could you even IMAGINE? Neither you nor I could compare the feelings to any terror this man felt. What would you do? A car collides with another, flies through the air and it's heading your way? WHAT WOULD YOU DO? There's nothing you can do! I saw this video months ago, and I spent a few nights wide awake convinced this guy died, and I cried for days on end - I didn't realise he survived, and to him I say - are you something special or what! In those moments when you almost drift of to sleep, you must stare up to the sky and see your life's worth. I am so happy to know you're alive, because when I saw the accident I melted in terror instantly, thinking what you saw and what you went through. This - to some people - may not be considered the 'worst accident'; not scaring them big time and then they go move on to the next one - but it makes you stop and think - how nice it would be to wake up the next day at 6am, hearing the birds sing and when a car goes by, you think "that was almost me...". I cry with happiness now - knowing your little face smiles, your little legs work and your little heart beats. God bless you and those you love. I wish you the best of love, life, happiness and the realisation this happened to help you see what you are capable of for the rest of your life. Enjoy!

- What Hurts Most
You are a very intact person. I too felt some of the feelings you have described. Thank you for speaking for those of us who care, as you do. I many times fear even going out of the house. I had a bad car wreck not too many months ago and it scared me so badly that I almost panic everytime I drive and see people that almost hit me whilst I try to be a safe driver. I went to hospital and my car was made like new again, however, I still have that fear. I have to drive far to get to my dental school and to drop off my beloved husband at his work, so, I have no choice but to be out there in that confusion and daily danger. It's so frightening. No matter how much I try not to think about what could happen, if I make any wrong moves in all that traffic. They seem to be all nuts at times. I especially fear for the children in these speeding vehicles and for the elderly drivers that might think they're home watching a movie, instead of driving, due to over medication. That's a real danger too. My nephew was hit by just such a person. She said she was sure she was watching TV and was surprised to be part of the action. Please, retest some of these people! Nobody wants their grandparents to be hurt in such a way.

There were two laws broken by 2 people, and one of them paid a higher price for it. Yes, the moron that ran the light caused a lot of damage, but the pedestrian might have been killed anyway. He was jaywalking against the light. Most tragic events are not one problem but a series of them.

You missed it. I admire your compassion but in your pitty for a fool you missed the facts. If the light was red for the driver it was red for the pedestrian. He chose to ignore the law and walk into an intersection against a red light, thus placing himself in harms way. If you look even closer the driver of the SUV showed no sign of seeing the pedestrian and was on a collision course to kill him. Instead she was bumped off of that course by a red light runner who actually ended up saving the jaywalker's life. In the end he was fully responsible for what happened to him. Sad but look at it again. Your compassion is admirable but he did not deserve it as cleanly as you expressed it.

I analyze traffic and accidents way too much, and no it isn't my job, but I will tell you that it isn't what it appears to be. The light was still green, and the car on the left was making a left turn, and it did not have a protected turn arrow, so it had to wait until the cars passed, but the cars didn't, so it sat at the light light a good, decent driver should. However, the PT Cruiser guy thought he could run the light in enough time, but the guy coming from the right was speeding and could tell that the cars were slowing down. He saw this and realized the light would turn green shortly. I do this sometimes, cruise through an intersection if I know the other cars are about to have a red light [but only if all lanes are occupied and I see that everyone is slowing down]. I know this is a dangerous practice, but the speed that this guy went through the intersection was way too fast. Both of these cars were in the right. He was almost finished crossing by the time the light turned green, hence giving the illusion that he was crossing on red, so it's not his fault.

Furthermore, I don't know if you know this, but you are supposed to give pedestrians the right of way, 100% of the time, even if where they are crossing may not be legal. You MUST yield to any persons attempting to cross any street, parking lot, or intersection. That doesn't mean we can walk along the highway, or around areas where crossing is prohibited [as indicated by common sense- highways, or laws-signs with a NO CROSSING guy with a red circle over it].
Regardless, the blame should be on both cars, for not appropriately yielding the way most impatient drivers do. Food for thought...2357645 - 2

Posting a bit late as I am new to the site, but yes, he did live, and with minor injuries. What saved him was the huge dent in the door of the vehicle that bowled him over. (Watch the video carefully and you will see what I mean.) His body fit, as the rescuers at the scene reported, 'perfectly' into the smashed in door of the vehicle., and sort of 'rolled with the blow'.

The man's name is Scott and he is my brother. It happen in Dayton, Ohio. a little over 2 yrs ago. He is still alive but spent months in the hospital. I often watch some of thes videos and wonder if they are real but this one is.

Dayton Police Sgt. Charles Hurley said Scott Tegtmeyer was walking in the intersection of Third Street and Edwin C. Moses Boulevard at 12:40 p.m. when a Chrysler PT Cruiser ran a red light, struck a Subaru sports utility vehicle and sent it into the air.
The Subaru landed upside down on Tegtmeyer and dragged him several feet across the intersection, Hurley said. Tegtmeyer, bloodied and surrounded by shattered glass, was pronounced dead on the scene, but he suddenly started breathing while in transit with paramedics. By 3 p.m., doctors had fully resuscitated him.
On Sunday evening, he was in the Miami Valley Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
Neither of the female drivers of the vehicles involved were carrying passengers. The woman driving the Subaru was transported to Miami Valley Hospital. Information on the condition of the driver of the PT Cruiser was not available. Hurley said police talked to eight witnesses. He also said it is possible a camera mounted high above the intersection captured the crash.
Dayton police recons tructionists, trained at putting clues together after crashes, were on the scene with digital cameras and measuring devices. The flipped Subaru showed noticeable crash damage on the left body panel. Ten yards away, the customized P.T. Cruiser with a "AAA" sticker on the back of its tinted windows showed damage to its front end.

Investigators said that at the time of the accident the crosswalk signal was red, and therefore Tegtmeyer should not have been crossing the street. They also reported that Tegtmeyer miraculously escaped alive because the dent in the side of the Subaru caused by the crash created a hollow space that allowed the vehicle to roll over him without crushing him to death. Neither vehicle was carrying any passengers, and both drivers escaped with only minor injuries.

While I admire your warm loving approach to this issue you need to take a second look at the innocent pedestrian. If the light is red for the car that ran the light, then it is red for the pedestrian. He is not an innocent victim, he is a jay walker with his head up his bottom. He had a choice to violate the law and walk like an idiot into the intersection against a red light. Now watch the video closer and you will see that the SUV showed no signs of seeing the jay walking idiot and was on a collision course to kill him when she was knocked aside by the redlight runner. So in reality, the jaywalking idiot set himself up to die and was saved by an accident.

This is why I pay extra attention when in or near intersections as a pedestrian or driver. If my light turns red and I'm the 1st car in the lane I stay back about 10 feet or so just to hopefully avoid being the bystander in an accident. One never knows where a car will end up when impacted. Also when my light goes green I look both ways anyway, the law states proceed when it's clear to go not just green. Makes good sense to me. My hat's off to the last few posts.

I saw this video shortly after it happened. It was caught on a red light camera.
The young man was hospitalized for 3 weeks and went home and was expected to make a full recovery.
He was burned from the exhaust but ironicaly when the car rolled it created a dent that saved his life when it went over him. It was on the urban legend site and it had his name which I looked up and found the info. turns out he was lucky after all

can u see the car coming from the right, even it was not intercepted by the other, it would had run over the guy anyway. The point in this case is, the traffic lights were obviously out, and some of cars stopped at the light as they 're supposed to when traffic lights are out, some just run straight thru like those 2 involved. This is the most dangerous situation when the all traffic lights are out, and not everybody was careful enough to see that and stop like there's a stop sign, especially when those are on a cell phone.

what?! then why did the other vehicles stop? if the traffic lights were out, then that fact would have been a part of the news story as well as the police report. also, the car would have driven right past the pedestrian in the left lane, as the pedestrian would have been in the right lane at the time. watch the video again. the guy should still have been paying more attention while crossing against the light, but he would have been fine otherwise.

Good thing he survived though. Hopefully he can still walk, etc. But the dent in the side of the suburu is what saved him, since thats what he was in while the car was rolling over him. It's interesting though that had that dent not been there he would have been crushed to death, but that dent wouldn't be there had the collision not happened in the first place. It just shows that the universe continues to turn with exactness, and makes no error.

I am not sure how much control we have over our surroundings. It is for sure safer to obey the rules and be cautious at all times. But, there are many things that are fully out of control. Every one runs a red light at least once in his lifetime, right? No matter how much of a safe driver you are. But that one time could cause this accident.
Now, the point of my submission; there are hundreds of miracle happening all around us every day. Do we see them all the time? Perhaps not, unless they are as noticeable as this accident. I for one have seen a good number of such miracles and believe in one thing. Some accidents happen no matter what for one reason only , to prove that the power of the creator is far beyond our greatest imaginations. These are our wake up calls, and reminders.

If this footage IS real, then I agree that the car that ran the light most likely saved the ped's life. There was an Angel driving that PT Cruiser. Also, watch how the PT turns slightly as if the driver KNEW how to hit the car the best to make it roll instead of T-boning him. Everything that happened was for a reason. Everyone lived. :)
