As Elena Filatova puts it, "this is truly a dead land now". Not much can live in such a harsh and hostile radiocative environment. Many people perished in this disaster, probably over 300,000 died. It's still extremely toxic to living things even today over ten years later!

    thay was funny! but this tragedy is not... we will never know now many died here but the the radiation fumes damage more of the Ukraine and Belaruss. Very sad cause from here every new born had hearth problems, they where born with hole on their hearth and the doctors in russian and must of the hospitals in the area did not know what to do about it or misdiagnose the problem. American doctor donated time doing surgery on this areas curing a problem that for american srgeuns is very comun and easy to deal with.. god bless them for their help.
