This centipede practically grabs this mouse and starts nibbling on it... its not easy to watch but this just shows what insects would be like if they were bigger than they are now!!
These fast moving and aggressive titans are among the largest of the many-legged centipedes and millipedes, the group collectively known as the Myriapoda. Centipedes are distinguished from millipedes by the presence of only one pair of legs per body segment, and their legs are attached to the sides of the body segments rather than near the ventral midline. They comprise the Class Chilopoda, which scientists divide into four orders. Giant centipedes are in the Order Scolo pendro morpha, which is distinguished by having 21 or 23 pairs of legs and, usually, four small, individual ocelli on each side of the head. The closely related Geophilomorpha lack eyes. Most Scuti geromorpha (of which there is only one North American species) and Lithobiomorpha have eyes similar to the compound eyes of insects, each consisting of up to 200 optical units similar to ommatidia, and adults in these two orders have only 15 pairs of legs.

CHance you can tell me how big they can grow please? I live in england and the biggest one i've ever seen is about half the size of my index finger which is obviously tiny compared to that fukker. Cheers.

By Lth783 1153813241 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveSo feeding the mouse to your pet is ok as long as you look away before it attacks, but putting it on tape makes it wrong? I don't see how watching it makes it any worse. Pretending like something does not happen does not make you better or more civilized.

By thatoneguy 1153877881 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI want to squish it.
By JV123 1153840457 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI grew up in the pacific ocean on a island called chuuk (its close to hawaii) and when I was little I got bitin on the hand by the bug in my sleep, I didn't worry about it until in the morning when I looked at my hand...my hand was swollen (you know when you blow into a rubber glove and it gets bigger....) will that was wat my hand looked like for weeks. The swollen goes down after a few weeks then its back to normal. The second time I got bitin was one my foot. The third time was on my hand again.
(Oh and for the record....when your hands or watever gets bittin and then the swallon begins it doesn't hurt)
that would have taken the swelling right down.
By thatoneguy 1153877976 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAnti-histamines as the name suggests block the action of histamine at H1 receptors. Oedema (the swollen hand) although partly due to histamine (owing to the complicated cascades involved in an immune response) is mostly due to the release of vasoactive peptides and other prostaglandins by necrotic tissue, and lymphocytes activated by the foreign antigens in the insects bite. Although anti-histamines are very good at stopping itching at the sight of the bite they would in fact have little affect on the swelling. The swelling could theoretically be stopped by NSAIDS, alpha1 receptor agonists or corticosteriods, but in practice is best treated by ice.

By rebeduct 1153810436 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removefor people who don't know the dif between a millipede and a centipede here is an easy way to tell ....milli as for million legs and centipede as in century as in 100legs....that is a centipede and is very very very venomous.
By BoltAction 1153841428 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeit is milli for 1000 not 1million
also they don;t really have 100 or 1000 legs
centipedes have 1 set of legs per body segment
and millipedes have multiple on each body segment.
you are right though this one is venomous though
the milli in millipede comes from the french word "mille" which means "a thousand", not million! don't thank me

By Alf_owns 1151215918 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou mean Oriental, Right? They come from Vietnam and the upper Orient. They are very venemous. But they can eat already dead mice.....the owner of this one is just sadistic.
By Steve Webb 1151291285 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveBesides they don't die any better death when they kill them for freeze drying. I guess if you don't see it die you can pretend like it was never alive and be a better person. Pretending things don't happen does not make you a better person it just makes you an ignorant liar.
By thatoneguy 1153878558 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI think it can probably take a much bigger victim. It barely used its body to take the mouse, probably a pet or a human child is no match for this thing. Insects are much stronger than mammals of the same size.
By studentt 1151179353 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeit is in the worm family i believe, dont remember its name but i do remember that its name involves a number, i think crazy 44 or whatever, just like that other insect that looks just like it but has 77 or 99 legs, but its a lot smaller
