    • What?

How do high oil prices help anybody except the exporters? Oil companies are making more money per gallon but earning less. How does that sentence make sense? Let's say you own a company and make 50 cents on the dollar. Not too shabby. Now let's say you own a company and make 20 cents on the dollar. Not too good. Well oil companies (as our media calls them "Big Oil") make about 8% profit for every dollar. 8 cents on the dollar. And with gas prices so high, Americans are buying less gas.

In fact numerous independant studies have been pioneered by Congress that states that "Big Oil" is doing NOTHING to inflate the price of gas and many companies are taking initiatives to bring prices down.

You know who makes a killing off of oil/gas sales? The government. And not the individuals putting money in their pockets either. It's interest groups funnelling money into lobbeyist's bank accounts. The Feds take 18.4 cents per gallon and state governments take even more (PA adds another 35 cents per gallon on diesel!). And that's only the government's take at the pump. The oil comes into the country at a charge. Is refined with charges. Is distributed with charges. And the only point where "Big Oil" makes ANY money is at the pump.

High oil prices only hurt President Bush's portfolio. I find it humerous that the very people who paint him out to be this evil genius who influences the ENTIRE GLOBE's oil sales are the very same people who say he's a blithering idiot. Which one is it?
