  • Cleaning coins may not be a good idea.

    Any coin dealer or serious coin colector will confirm that cleaned coins may have less value than stained ones.

    In particular, silver coins stained with colors such as purples, greens, etc, command higher prices than the same coin in a cleaned state. Collectors like those colors.

    A misconception that many folks have is that before taking a coin to a dealer it should be cleaned. Don't.
