  • Cross-over cable

    Ethernet cable setup for crossover
    Pins cable's other end pins
3- - 1 this crosses the transmit and recieve
6- -.2 pairs. Leave other wires straight thru
1- -.3 If you don't understand this go to
2-- -.6 a computer store and ask for a crossover

    By XROLMAN 1218516679
  • remember

if you are connecting the computers directly to each other like this, you will need a "crossover" cable instead of a normal cable.

  • Very Nice

Thanks alot. It was really nice!

  • It might have been helpful

if the author of the video had mentioned you would need a "Crossover" network cable to make it work this way. Most cables available are "Patch" cables which require a switch, hub, or Router to work.

  • pretty unclear

didn't mention if he had used a straight through or a crossover, its crossover that he used

    By hijackemz 1262005233
  • Just Plug the UTP cne cable

in windows XP, there is no need to assign Manual IP (Static one) becasue there is automatice private IP address assignment when there is absence of DHCP.
but in the system tray it will still appear as yellow mark

  • yeah big problem

you may of connected the computer but no internet
you only made filesharing between the two laptops..
i am an IT professional so i know that this is not a true network..
its virtually a connection between 2 computers.

    By QUAKEMASTER 1246519089
    • You are wrong

A network is made up of two computers or more, so what we have here is a network. I noticed people tolking about crossover cable for this work, even a straight through cable works fine once u understand ip addressing. the other important thing is the security of the folders u intend to share. I will be doing a video soon showing u how to setup the sharing security for your folders and ip addressing. for easy access to any folder u ave shared on a peer to peer network is to give full control to the everyone group. to do this, just right click the folder u want to share and go to either properties or sharing and security. choose "Everyone" and mark the "allow - full control" check box. click on apply and u are done

    By scatola_di_pustola 1219865756
  • 1st : IT must BE a CROSSWIRED CABLE

Otherwise U need an ethernet Rooter and 2 LAN cables

2nd : next time name it not just a "LAN CABLE", but RJ45 STP cat.7 or cat 9 cable.

    By scatola_di_pustola 1219865562
    • 3rd:

Why use expensive cat 9 or cat 7 when you can use cat 5 or even cat 3 with this very simple network?

Thank you for your reply. I shall try it out.

    • re:

this is considered a local network. These settings will work anywhere in the world as long as the two laptops are on the same physical network. If you were to use a hub, say an eight (8) port hub/switch, you would be able to use this idea to connect 8 computers. In this video he is just bypassing the hub/switch. As long as the first three groups of numbers (192.168.1) are the same, the last group of numbers could be anything from 1 through 254. Please note that this video did not say anything about a cross-over cable. You would need this special cable to do this without using a hub/switch. A regular LAN cable will not allow this to work. To setup the easiest to maintain network, I would suggest getting a router (it can be the cheapest one you can find) and plug each computer into the router. If you use this method, you will not have to worry about setting the TCP/IP settings, just plug it in and boom! you're on the network.

  • we can surf ?

really ? do anyone try it?

    By doze14 1218950131
    • Can't Surf the Web

The setting only allow two computer to connect to each other. You can use it to play games that support multiplayer. Like Warcraft III DotA, CS, etc...

  • Wait

You mean to tell me laptops are not computers? I thought laptop computers were computers.

Hence "I need two laptops or two computers"

      do you think you're funny?

      You're not.

      By Absofstee1 1218607984
    • maybe he meant

      'two laptops or TWO DESKTOPS"

      By chuchay 1219456972
    • re:

I think this was a lazy/loose term for computers. Laptops are computers...you can hook just about any network device together (PC desktop/laptop, MAC desktop/laptop, network printers, game systems, etc.) and make it talk to all of the other devices. TCP/IP networks are very cross-platform.
