Basic English
Truck driver avoids lights and tries to beat train.
1. The truck was stood still on the railway, the driver tried to reverse, but seems like the bar stopped him, he can't reverse, so he has to take a chance to beat the railway to avoid the incoming train (I assumed he doesn't know which direction is the train coming). But time is not enough.
2. The trailway has too short buffer time after the bar is lowered down. If only it has 1 minute margin, the accident could've avoided. blame the railway.
stop being such a smart ass u dumb f@ck

By malaysiaBOY 1218594599 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehe just panicked
By StiffCookie86 1218567568 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removea 1 minute margin for waiting for the bar to come down? That's absurd. If you need one minute to react to that you should never have received a driving license. 5 seconds should be plenty of time. The lights flash, and the bar drops, indicating A HUGE TRAIN THAT WILL DOMINATE YOU IS COMING (if you're dumb enough to get in its way).
By Shock3naw 1228768580 Reply Spam [-2] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe one gate lowered first causing the driver to try to reverse, then the other gate came down behind him causing a trap as these are supposed to be syncronized but were defective, also lowered much too quickly and with WAY inadequate time before the high speed train reaches the intersection! The driver should have just backed up and broken the gate behind him but may have had other vehicles right on his tail (as usual), but by the time he shifted gears again the train was on top of him and I'm betting from his point of view that it appeared the train could have been on the tracks that he was forced to stop on in the first place and he bailed and sacrificed the trailer, which wasn't a bad call at all. Yes the railway had a deadly trap set for anyone driving anything across that intersection from that direction and should be sued for neglegence, endangerment and damages, without question.
By _Alx_ 1249728436 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethere are alot of good points in your comment that I won't argue with. BUT, I have a CDL and have driven trucks across the railroad tracks. There are so many vids out there of semis getting hit that it only takes a little bit of common knowledge. In this case the driver should have just backed up. Broke the gate, maybe total the vehicle behind it at 5 mph ( no bodily injury ) but save the truck and trailer. Not to mention that that freight train had to stop causing it a delay. The train always wins, sacrefice the other guy. It would have been a slow accident. 5 mph.
By F150 1249983446 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removebut good trying, you know how that goes. We can't see what he was looking at in his mirrors or what he could or couldn't see going on around him and that train was going entirely too fast through that intersection, the gates barely had enough time to operate, and then they didn't work right. Maybe he had other trucks right behind him and knew he couldn't go back and bailed forward. And we've seen what can happen with this era's flimsy new 'Insurance friendly' cars when even slighty impacted- crumple and explode into flames. Maybe, maybe not. And I'd (maybe) rather sacrifice the trailer than shove back into a school bus or minivan full or kids or a couple bikers or whatever. We can only second guess, but some of these reviewers jumped to the wrong conclusions and obviously made rash remarks out of ignorance...the kind of ignorance that contributes to these kinds of incidences every day. People need to think before they react, and even so S**t still happens and the pro drivers are forced deal with stupid-crazy people and situations all the time whether it's construction zones set up by retards or 'fast & furious' motorists on suicide missions, (cops included). We can't afford to make any mistakes today and partly because there is a surplus of people only too eager to climb in your ass over something of which they have little or no understanding. And at times like this, it's a matter of life and death and you've got -10 seconds to decide what to do, if you have no good choices hope you at least make the least worst decision and make it.
By _Cash_ 1250139667 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIf he stayed where he was he would not have gotten hit as the train is on the track closest to the camera and he is on the farther track. As for backing up he could have and all that would happen is the gate would snap off. This is Poor judgment by the driver as the lights had to be flashing at least 5 - 8 sec before the gates come down and gates are set up to come down depending on the speed of the train , that timing is set by federal and sometimes state standards. Working as an engineer I can say I see a lot of dumb people doing stuff like this and then saying they didn’t have a clue that the gates could come down on their car or the lights were not flashing. To bad there is circuitry in the box next to the track that logs everything and knows if the lights were on or not by the amount of current going to each bulb. Also keep in mind that in most communities the RR was there before the crossings and even before the towns were built so people should pay more respect to the trains. Remember if its bigger then you then it has the right of way no matter what, LOL.
By mgwsy 1218598356 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveFirst of all you are never supposed to stop on the tracks, but in this case the one gate came down very quickly and only seconds before the train came jetting through. From the camera's vantage point it looks obvious but when you are sitting on the tracks about 10 feet away from the train the view is much different, but with more experience behind the wheel you would know that. The rail road is to blame here. And it looks like the conductor was running too fast as they are regularly trying to catch up time if they are running behind schedule.

By booler 1219688199 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHe should have backup after he stopped, there was no way he was goiing to make it across. He used poor judgement, the only way he had a chance to make is if he never stopped to begin with.
By Streetglider07 1219773763 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI doubt it, try shifting into reverse with and air-shift transmission and back up quickly with 20 idiots in cars riding your ass behind you honking their horns, I'm betting you're probably one of those that are always there helping to create a dilemma, one of those react first, think later types.
By _Cash_ 1249739865 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe train pylons went down after he was already somewhat in the middle of the track. Shouldn't there be more warning from the pylons before they go down? I'd say they should be at least a minute between when the pylons go down and when the train arrives at that location.
By rickyk2 1219300807 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewhat is a train going that fast in town. trains fault to shoulda been going a lot slower they arent allowed to go so fast in intersections here in the towns and cities

By sgtjoebear 1218580001 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveActually, he tried to go reverse. But he was just stucked in the middle. That's why, He tried to escape. He made the right decision but it's too late. Your discription is too cruel... he's not playing... he's not intentionally beating the train.
