  Somwhere here on Metacafe is a video of a BMW doing the same thing, and on a production model, soon to be available. And it shows it happening from the inside, the wheel moving and all. Appears to be a legit commercial for BMW soon to release it to the public.

BMW started developeding the same system
on the X5 SUV last year. It intends to install it on all its models within a couple of years. So it's not just the fantasy of some college students.
Mercedes has a similar system on the latest S Series, where the car gives you indications, but you still have to turn the wheel though.

That's a fairly old video
It's not a production system: it's something a couple of graduate students put together for a class project. It has all sorts of practical limitations, not the least of which are the two cameras bodged onto the other side of the car where you can't see them; but it can (or could--it's undoubtedly been disassembled by now) parallel-park that car under just the right conditions.

Well, obviously you haven't, so let me tell you what they're 'bout; sensors, which are installed in a lot of new cars nowadays, warn you that you're gettin close to the cars around you while you're parkin your car, n' when you get too close, the car automatically stops.
  Now the purpose of this new technology is to help inexperienced drivers (i.e women) to park. Think before you speak dumbass!!
