    the cloud is formed by the condensation of water vapour and it tends to happen more when air is humid and at lower altitude. see that F-18 is flying right above the ocean surface?

    are you idiot? this is not sonicboom lol can you 'see' sound? well at least i can't. that kind of 'cloud' usually forms when atmosphere is humid and it happens even if the plane has not reached the speed of sound.

    travelling at mach 1.0 is actually not a good idea, due to the high turbulence in the compressed-air shock front, which may be able to break aircraft apart. once you get beyond the speed of sound, things get smoother as the bow shock is now stretched out behind the nose (and body) of the aircraft.
