  • BS.

It doesn't magnify. It acts as small apperture which gives better image focus.

    • More info at my website will clarify

The appearance of magnification results from bringing the object closer to your eye, thus allowing more image area and detail to strike your retina.

  • Normal pinhole model

This is just the normal pinhole model. There is no image enlargement taking place at all but the pinhole model ensures that the focus is perfect. The smaller the hole, the better the focus (and less light is passed through). This method allows everyone, even glass users, to get a sharp image of whatever they look at and at any distance (pretty much). Their glasses wont make a noticeable difference except preventing the sheet to get close to the eye (this is needed for best result).

Try to view text up close (1-3 cm). You will be unable to focus with your eye. Put the pinhole sheet in front of your eye and now you can see the text clearly (unless the hole is too large).

  • I saw my uncle

making a very small hole using thumb and index finger right at his eye looking at a coin.
I then tried it, since I need cheaters, and it worked for me.

    • Yes, you're right...

Thank you for mentioning this... during the video production it felt a little clumsy to me to execute so I didn't include it, but it is a valid method as well and should be shared. :-)

You can use bottled water. I've used it very successfully.

  • Super Cool!

I just made a video of exactly the same thing! I didn't know you had one, until just now, but you might want to check mine out for other ways to make a hole, if you don't have a piece of duct tape and a safety pin.

5 stars dude! (great minds think alike) lol

I don't get it. How does it work? It doesn't bend light so how does it magnify?

    • Reduces "Circles of Confusion"

Light is linear, and when "lines" of light are not focused on a spot they spread and blur (circle of confusion). By eliminating most "lines" a few remain that reads more clearly. By using the pinhole, you can bring an object closer to your eye than normal so that you see more detail, thus appearing larger. Check out my site for further detail. :-)

  • Does it really work?

I'm stuck in bed with a broken leg, so I can't honestly try this out right now being stuck in a hotel to boot.. I'll give the video a 4 star... it's stupid that most of the people on here who rate stuff like this badly (less than 3) don't even have movies of their own. Good job.

    • YES! It really works!

The image of the medication bottle instructions was actually shot through a pinhole! I wouldn't read a novel this way, but since I started making the video, I've used my pocket pinhole card (as described on my site's video page) quite often. In a pinch it can save the day...
