It is amazing, how stupid an architect can be...
If there was a building shaped like the star of David right next door.
By translucent orb 1151435846 Reply Spam [+14] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethe swastika is actually an ancient budhist symbol meaning good fortune.

Native American tribes used it, I have Hindu friends and I have seen it on some of thier sacred things in their home shrine. I saw it in my Anthropology class last fall. It's every where. Even in many offices that are separated by cubicles. Check those out sometime.
Check out DNA from the top down.
Check out the "Golden Spiral" and Phi and the Platonic Solids. It's all there.
Some sick jerk tried to harness the Universe's energy for his hideous schemes then he blew his brains out when he failed. It doesn't make the form bad, people who use it for evil give it a bad rep.
But the buddhist symbol has the ends going counter clockwise, so it's not the same at all

By funnydonky 1157475179 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei thought it was like a roman symbal or something for power. learn something new every day
By rock on 1155598802 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt appeared nearly simultaneously on several continents from the Orient, the Australian Aboriginal to the Native American and usually pointed in the *counter-clockwise* direction. It was even, ironically enough, found in Judaism and was discovered in a Jewish synagogue that was recently restored new Beverly Hills in an area called, yes, Swastika Acres before the 1930's. Historical restoration regulations required they stay rather than be removed! There are even old Boy Scout badges that could be earned bearing the symbol.
The *experts* figure the universal appearance of the symbol and its consistent ties to great fortune or great disaster suggest it was probably derived from the appearance of an aging comet that had four *jets* of gas coming out of the corona and it spun on approach creating the appearance of the swastika as we know it. The phenomenon has been observed before with one, two, or three jets, so it is plausible. Also considering the universal timing of its appearance in societal folklore and art, and a universal superstitions of comets, it becomes a *probable* explanation.
What Hitler did was turned it clockwise and 45 degrees to make it more imposing.
the buddist symbol is reverse of the swastika
By Silver Wolf 1152854178 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeback in primary school i used to believe that as well, but in fact it can be *either* direction (direction dictates meaning). as i said earlier, the swastika is a symbol copied from hinduism and buddhism.
By z0ink 1152868004 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHinduism predates Buddhism by thousands of years. In the same way Yoga is Hindu and not Buddhist as westerners seem to think.
By perceptions 1151578032 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyou are right, apart from being a buddhist symbol, it is ALSO a hindu symbol, as well as representing many other meanings that i failed to list. my bad.
yoga? i'm sure westerners, easterners, southerners and northerners have MANY misconceptions about each other. too bad for them.
You are right about the mis understandings.
However you need to take into account the fact that the Hindus were using the swastika thousands of years before buddhism even started and the Buddhists just adopted it from the hindus along with a lot of other concepts. Just trying to correct a common misconception . ;)
was just about to post that but noticed that some people on metacafe are actually knowledgeable.

By 541-683-5202 1155063436 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeok now i will explain everything beacuse you guys are so young you cant remember when this was discovered (and published), the form does resemble the nazi sign but that was not on purpose, after the war they discovered it was formed like it. So instead of destroying a perfectly fine building (throwing money away) they decided to build 2 houses that looked like bombplanes to show that they did not support the nazis (and by building 2 new houses they only gained more houses and the old one could avoid destruction)...it was economical and smart .everyone should know this so no more "buhuhu that looks like a nazi sign" the US knows about it and they build the houses (looks like 2 bomb planes) to remove the chance that sombody would in the future misunderstand this. This was published by several newspapers in the US and by the National Geographic (long long time ago).....now everybody knows the truth so stop spamming this channel about Isarel war and other stuff, it has nothing to do with the topic

that the same sign could've developed in two different civilizations? after all, it's not that creative of a symbol. and the word is INvincibility, dumbass. if you're not a native english speaker i'll let it slide, but otherwise you sound like you're about 12 years old and need to be in summer school instead of screwing around on your parents' computers.

Jewis need to take a walk outside to the real world of history.

I don't really think this poser knows what the real world is. Here's a hint, it's full of a lot of different people and they aren't going away any time soon. Calling them names and trying to belittle other people is only going to expose you for the fool you are and ythe only point you have made is to proove that you are, indeed, a fool.
So, do unto others as you would have them do unto you. That one works for whatever your beliefs are!
It's really late (2:45 am) and I forgot to add this part .
Its just a symbol that reminds people of very bad things that happened.
Some people believe that burning a big cross is a good way to celebrate thier faith...or at least that's thier story. It was originally so innocent but now it's a symbol of hate and domestic terrorisim that we in the US have turned our backs too for a shamefull amount of time.
It's just the bad history the symbol envokes. That does not mean that anyone is paranoid.

By fednegerkvinde 1152742666 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe whole idea of Nazi symbolism was to tap into the supposed ancient Germanic/Aryan roots and unify the people by a common ancestry. Hence the SS's symbol was runic. Also the Nazis had a thing for the occult and mystical, buying into alchemy and hollow-earth theories; it's only natural that they tap into mystical symbols.
By subimago 1154910650 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt's not a swastika its the wring way round it is the buddhist symbol for fertillity and fortune.
By cranro 1152358372 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIndeed, and hitler originally took it from a legendary hero's symbol in an old scripted play. And guess where the play got it? The budhist symbol...yay! people on myspace with brains!!!! hallelujah!
By IronWolf 1152029537 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI took a vacation out to the western states in the US, and a curator at one of the museums that I visited told us that the swastika originated from the natives in the area....I believe it was the Hopi.....who use "fire wheels". A german man came to the US to venture out west and wrote of his wanderings and drew illistrations for his log book. When he returned to Germany he had it published. Hitler supposedly was very interested in other cultures and took to the fire wheels because they are symbols for unity. Well.....that's what I heard anyway.

Hitler had the swastika for less than 20 years.
the rest of the world had it for thousands.
its a very well designed, site layout, all four seperate blocks both close in the courtyard space between the buildings, while at the same time the buildings design themselves allow for a large area of the elevation can be taken up by windows - allowing building occupants to have good views from the buildings.
And so wat if it looks like the swastika, hilter stole that from someone else.

The Rebel battle flag doesn't equal the KKK except that .....
Everyone thinks it does so it pretty much does.
I love the Rebel battle flag as much as any true southerner but the KKK has taken it and preverted it's meaning, so I don't fly it. I don't have the same affinity for the swastika but even if I did I wouldn't display it because it is so closely associated with pure unadultrated evil. Just a thought....
The swastika has been a symbol of power for thousands of years, the Confederate Flag has been the symbol of the Confederate States of America for 155 years. I don't dispay a swastika because that's not a part of my history, but i do proudly display the Confederate flag on the front of my truck because it was.
I'm not a racists and I'll tell anyone that...the Stars and Bars aren't either. It wasn't until the KKK joined ranks with American neo Nazis in the 1930's to keep their membership from becoming non existent that the flag got stereotyped into a racist symbol.
The History Channel can be very entertaining at times.
Even for an amatuer historian.
totaly your right. I don't display the flag because you don't get the chance, and it would be a pain in the ass even if you did, to explain to everyone you meet "No I'm not a racist, I'm just proud to be from the south" People make assumptions, and bad ones based on the display of the stars and bars. I'd rather not have to start out trying to prove I'm not a racist. I guess what I'm trying to say is preception is reality and it's damn hard to fight reality!!
By Rugger 1151600952 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe confederate flag was designed to represent a country that opposed the USA in every way possible. Not to mention that it only existed for about 5 years. You are saying that a lame, anti-american, 5 years is your heritage. Wasn't there something before that for you?????? You are holding to five years of civilization.
By rajindra 1151576765 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyou mention your history is based on an association with the flag of the confederacy... and im not raggin on ya here, but were you born in a state of the CSA?.. what ide like to know is.. how many generations back does that go?.. before that where did your family line originate... do you, or other folks, recognize the fact that as an anglo-saxon or anglo- european or some other such combination , your family came from another country before they were here?.. oh and i think the CSA isnt around anymore, so that might be why theres a stigma associated with its use when someone says"..well the csa is 155 years old"
By trail 1151501889 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removefor starters I didn't say the CSA was 155 years old, I said the symbol representing it was.
And my heritage goes back to the late 17th century early 18th century on my Scottish side, My Finish side didn't arrive until early 20th century. My Scotts side being in Massachusetts, Florida, and Texas. I'm from the Florida branch but was born in California and raised in Texas.
And for the record, one of the reasons I display the stars and bars is to hold onto a piece of American history. A piece that to many pc people are trying to erase, it seems. You can't deny the fact that the Civil War did happen.
And before anyone askes...I do fly the American flag in front of my house 24/7/365. So don't try and knock my patriotism to The United States of America, I wouldn't live anywhere else!!!!!
as i mentioned in a previous post... i wasnt raggin... one thing i did just notice was that parts or all of my posts on this subject have been identified as applying to more than one other persons posts... so dont respond to me if you are thinking something above is related to what you said... no offense.. but on the other hand make sure if you DO feel the need to reply that it is to the correct persons post... did any of that make sense or do i need an other cup of dark roast?
By trail 1151670730 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI was born and raised in the south. My family goes back to the mid 1800's in the south. And yes to your other point we came over from Scotland by way of Ireland on oneside and Germany on the other. If you're not from the US it may be hard to understand but the south, still to this day, takes pride in being different than the rest of the country. It's a mindset, we've got our faults but we've got more good traits than bad. I think it's important to be proud of where you live and your heritage. I'm proud of my Irish heritage it just doesn't affect me on a daily basis like my southern heritage does.
One last point: I think you're totaly wrong about where the stigma associated with the flag comes from. It most definitley comes from some asshole racist white guys running around with hoods on because they're embarassed to show their faces.
well.. it seems as though you are getting a few more responses than you mightve originally thought... as far as i am concerened i have the same geneaology ...half irish 1/2 german.. but i doint think a persons heritage should be the focal point of their existence... rather how a persons parents /family raised them... and how to respect others.. like the guys in sheets cant seem to do... as you alluded to..

By capricornz 1151510716 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIts funny how some fail to see the full picture; have a look at the buildings to the southwest of the one that is zoomed into (it might be difficult to study in detail on this video so look it up on google earth). These buildings look remarkably like (not one, but two: one tailing the other) bomber aircraft. So really, this isn't Nazi propaganda; but quite the opposite. It amazing how cunning architects can be, isn't it.
P.S. and amazing how stupid some certain others are...
there are buildings that are shaped like aircraft next to it. I would say the architect is smart. I mean on a military base buildings that from the air look like bombers bombing the symbol of Nazi Germany.
