Jet Pack Vs Car

  • Come on people

I understand that, in this case, liquid hydrogen is used for propulsion. Also, it requires a huge volume of liquid hydrogen for this to work ( let's say 1 or 2 hundred gallons).
It is perfectly possible to fit this volume of hydrogen in those 3 tanks (density of hydrogen is about 71g/L).
However, the reaction of hydrogen and the oxygen contained in the air should also produce a huge amount of water vapor...and I don't see that vapor :p.

This took place in the 60's at Brands hatch Grand Prix circuit in England. It was a result of a James Bond film (Can't remember which one) so OK it's a fake (usual Metacafe explanation) BUT I saw it! So how does it work mr Scientist?

    • You can't see water vapor. It's invisib...

There is water vapor in the air all the time, but you can't see it.

What you see, for example, at the spout of a tea kettle, is condensed water vapor, that is, water vapor that has condensed into tiny dropplets of liquid water.

The jet pack produces water vapor, but it dissipates before it condenses because it's at a much higher temperature than a tea kettle, so you don't see it.

  • I wonder

why not much progress has been made into the development of the the jet pack. This should be a cool equipment for hobbyists.

  • Jet Pack Vs Car

The fuel was actually hydrogen peroxide and nitrogen, aprox 5 gallons per 30 second flight. max range was about a half mile. This type rocket belt could never outrace a car. A jet pack was built that would fy about 10 minutes. Lets all hope for a breakthrough on range and price.

you wont see water vapor, you will only see water vapor that has condensed into tiny water droplets.
