Metacafe Launches Wikipedia-Inspired Feature to Improve Video Search
Short-form video entertainment site Metacafe has a new solution to video search. It has launched a new feature called Wikicafe to let users edit the tags surrounding video content.
Accurate metadata is the key to helping users find the videos they want, according to Metacafe Product Manager Avi Yaar. Wikicafe will help eliminate false metadata that users submit to get a video more attention.
Wikicafe, built on the MediaWiki platform originally written for Wikipedia, has been in beta testing for four months. Wikipedia has grown to be more comprehensive and accurate because of the community surrounding it, and Metacafe hopes it will achieve the same level of quality, founder Eyal Hertzog says.
