  • (part two) because ...

(part two) because the solar panel is limited how fast it can generate energy (wattage), it can't quite instantaneously fill the energy storage component--which result in a bit of flickering until there is enough energy stored. If you wikipedia "electrical ballast" and scroll to the "electronic ballast" entry, there'd be a picture of one of these circuits, which has both a good sized capacitor and a wound coil inductor. Hope that helps.

  • These compact ...

These compact fluorescent lights have electronic ballasts that changes the low frequency or DC voltages to high frequency AC voltages. For efficiency reasons, they tend to have Pulse Width Modulation circuits, which usually contain some sort of energy storage device such as an inductor coil or a big capacitor. For the PWM circuit to work smoothly, the storage component must have enough energy stored in it. (part one)

2:52 Nice safety glasses, sheesh. Kids today... Now, I wonder if you could run a washing machine from a generator you ran from an exercise bike.

    Hi,

Yes I do. They are small right now but I am working on a larger concept. How much power are you looking for?

I should say I bought my silicon panel from JC Whitney automotive.

  • Also, when I bought ...

Also, when I bought my 15 watt like that I paid 160 bucks for it! Geez.... today everything is a bit less. Harbor freight also had 50 watt mono panels for a good price as well. I also liked to charge up marine batteries and then with my 1500 watt inverter run my tv off it for a while. But all together I only have right now like 5 amps of charging power so its quite slow. I used to think of a car alternator charging at 50 amps lets say an hour would kick ass if you swapped batteries out in car

  • This video is right ...

This video is right up my alley. I love solar panels! I have a 50 watt monocrystalline along 2 silicon amorphous panels like you have there as well as a few other small ones. My input on panels that I found out its better to invest in the monocrystalline the blue colored type, they last from 25 to 40 years I was told by a company that makes panels. The silicon amorphous lasts like 10 years in sunlight and they don't put out the same amps that the mono type does in low light conditions.

I am interested in a fresnel/steam engine/generator setup. I live in S. Florida, lots of sun here. Got anything on that?

  • Thermal solar works ...

Thermal solar works like a nuclear plant... heats water into a turbine. I haven't seen any small scale applications.. I think it's only good if it's on an industrial scale.

Thank you!!! I try to do the videos when I am excessively motivated or have some extra coffee:-) We had a 46 day straight run here in Central Florida with NO useable sun (depressing). Every day was overcast or thunderstorms. Never saw anything like it. That is why I did all the night videos and lightning.

    Hi,

You are right on track. The next video will have that. I will be demonstrating the difference and what the measurements mean. Thank you for the idea.

    Thank you Mr Tator,
That is a great deal. Harbor Freight was sold out here. The guy called me when they came in but someone bought all that day. I paid 179 through ebay but shipping was close to $50. Makes sense the box is heavy and huge. This ebayer was great to deal with. If anyone wants the user name, let me know in case harbor freight is out.

  • Great Videos Dan! ...

Great Videos Dan! Keep up the Good work. BTW, I did pick up this same setup at Habor Freight to add to some other panels I have and the kit was on sale for $189.99 which I believe ends today (8/11). So if anybody wants to save a few bucks go to your nearest Habor Freight and pick this up before the sale is over and if they dont have it in stock get a Rain Check. Works out to be like $4.44 a watt which is hard to beat anywhere. I hope I save someone a few dollars with this comment.

Awesome, I love your videos! Have you ever considered doing a basic lesson on electronics? Maybe something that would give people with no idea of volts and amps or AC and DC a little bit of a background to better understand what you are showing them here.
