Synopsis
Inspired by musical and psychological definitions, ‘Fugue’ examines the dark flight from identity and environment. Hand processing and the juxtaposition of positive and negative footage depict the journey of a woman as she shifts between being black or white and widow or bride.

Artist's Biography
My films explore the process of transformation. They originate in the subconscious, forgo the traditional use of dialogue, and rely instead on the utterance of imagery and sound.

My task, as a filmmaker, is to create a visual piece which, like the process of transformation, is muddied and blurred in places, scratched and scorched in others, and yet resolute in direction and form. In order to achieve this end I hand process my film, manipulate it in the developing tank, scratch, paint and bleach individual frames, and otherwise distort projected images, treating the film as my canvas.

  • Art

Of course it's art. It sets a tone -- a rising disquiet -- and then compels it forward, and downward, working its way through you. A great many of effects are gorgeously baleful.

  • Beautiful

Art for the sake if art is ALWAYS a good idea. Art is an expression beyond words that takes courage to create. The beauty of this film is that it does not need to have a clear message. It has a feeling which is more important than understanding it's meaning. It can mean or be about anything the viewer wants. That is art.

  • Wow...

...I have no idea what you were trying to convey.

I think I recall Russia is the history behind the first half or so of the video (with all the fallen trees) but after that..? Poof...

The fact that it was shot the way it was simply confuses me even more.

Art for arts sake sometimes isn't always a good idea.

    2*

Well done for the effort :)
